I never consume alcohol out on the road even on a 10 hour break. I will on a 34 hour break if I’m out on the road and I’m staying in a hotel. And I do it on the front side of the start of that break. I will never attempt to squeeze alcohol consumption in with only a 10 hour break. What you’re suggesting about allowing weed into the industry is opening up Pandora’s box. For a plethora of reasons. I personally don’t have a problem with those who partake in marijuana, they just don’t have any business being truckers in my opinion. It’s a choice, if you wanna smoke weed or use weed? Have at it, just pick a different career.

Exactly. Not going to happen. It's still against federal law. The trucking industry is regulated by the feds. The end.

Until the urge goes away to eat a whole bag of Oreos without sharing while listening to 70s acid rock and mumbling to yourself even though nobody else is there besides you . And the drooling...you have to stop drooling. It's a dead give-away.
    At least that long.

This jobs means you are subject to random drug screens. You know it before your first day on the job begins. You also know that if you fail the test you are fired. Just imagining a different world where none of that exists may make dope smokers feel better but it doesn't change anything in this thing we call reality. Dope smokers value smoking dope beyond most anything else but then claim "it's just a harmless weed man, relax." Functional alcoholics can fail any BAC and still do their taxes, that is why whining about the difference between testing and being hammered is a pointless exercise. Maybe the economy can just jump in the air and wait until the dope smokers agree that some test is valid. Not likely, but sure let's pretend. You can learn discipline at home, or school, or work, or wandering around doing nothing. If you don't learn it in those places, feel free to learn it in prison. Just don't expect the people in every situation but you to have diehard principals, expert-level training and reflexes, and a hardcore commitment to following their rules while the slackers just make excuses. Society is in the real world where actions have consequences even if you feel it should be different. Adults usually learn that pretty early after they start paying their own bills. Maybe paying bills is just a social construct the dope smokers and slackers think someone else should do, but never them.

I already know alcoholics. I saw one shoot a wooden ladder out the back of a jet engine test cell while I was in college because he didn't strap it to the wall after it was used. That WAS his job.

That's a whole lot of words to not say anything.

It's not that many words unless you want to get them tattooed on your forehead.

Not until we can measure the amount of THC present in someone's system at a specific point in time, like a Breathalyzer does with alcohol.
