The goal should be to safely move from A to B at the maximum safest speed.
Unfortunately, despite the generous amount of money extorted from the people, traffic builds up with no hope in sight for the supposed customers who are forced to pay for a more expensive and less effective system of roads and highways.
The lack of innovation is evident most places you travel. Instead of using crumb rubber which results in a longer lasting road/highway, conventional construction techniques are used which result in more maintenance and an excuse to get the same funding or even more from taxpayers. They’ve been working on that BQE forever, with more and more traffic and no real improvements…because they can and they don’t care what anyone has to say about it.
Add on top of that, rules and regulations and an added revenue stream from DOT enforcement, registration fee’s, etc. and the result is far from ideal as people wait in traffic to get to their destination, adding more to the pollution that some complain about. How’s that traffic working out on a hot summer day for those electric cars that have the AC on and are wasting juice with nowhere to go?
If any company performed in a way that these state DOT’s do, they would go out of business. Look at the situation of having to beg govt for more truck parking. That in itself is ridiculous that we have to rely on something rife with waste fraud and abuse and is not even accountable to the people and businesses in the end, to provide more of what we are demanding.
Is the answer to continue in this manner to save face, or open up the road business to competition and innovation through the market? I believe the latter holds true. This shouldn’t be by way of a public private partnership which transfers the risk to the “taxpayer”, but one through investor capital.
Continuing down the road as it stands, the govt, no matter the concerns and complaints from everyone in the industry, will ultimately do whatever they want despite our objections as they could care less about what the majority of us think or want and will operate in a manner that their “donors” approve of.
James J. Hill built a railroad empire nary a subsidy, outcompeting govt funded railroads, even with the imposed regulations and price fixing that the political donors forced upon him in order to crush the competition…being Hill. Mind you; during that time, they weren’t able to use the printing press against him, which destroys the voices and choices of people in the market. The latter indeed changes the winners and losers against the will of the people. That’s about the only hurdle in which a modern system of roads would face.

But there will probably be an exemption similar to the ELD one and everyone will be dragging junk B models out of the woods to drop into their 389. -
You calling my B models junk! PfffftBean Jr., Big Road Skateboard and Long FLD Thank this. -
I believe the pumps were used to turn the truck up or down. I can remember the safety guy on the road checking for the wire seal on the cone of the pump.
Also had a Tachograph wheel to turn in on every run. -
This could be the breaking point for alot of people in the industry.
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
