Having started my driving career in the 55 mph days, I assure you, it sucked. Although, very few actually drove 55, and we had the power to get up and get around someone. Having every truck at the same speed will be horrible.

The easy answer to this is running two ecm's on your truck, in a cat you can custom mount one on top of the other I already know guys that do it because they race there trucks on the weekends or have some tunes you can't run all the time because they aren't good for everyday use. You have one set at 55 or whatever and one with no limiter, for me honestly it probably won't matter because I spend most of my time right around 65 so it is what it is. But I love being able to get around trucks that are limited to a little below what I am currently running. But I can guarantee you my second ecm that I haven't farted around with will be retuned and unlimited

My money is on 70 mph. I think they'll try not to start an outright riot with something like 55 or 60 while still making us bow to their climate change and lobbiest gods. It's also just fast enough to keep a lot of drivers from really raising hell about it.
It's going to be an absolute nightmare when person 1 is governed at 69.8 and person 2 is governed at 70 when he goes to pass.

Oh, don't forget that they will have your ELD record your speed and if you go over it will show up in your logs as a violation.

    Siinman Thanks this.

You think they care about your nightmare scenario of everyone at 65 mph? Of course not. It'll be a 1 size fits all approach.

But the mega carriers are lobbying for an exemption that allows them 70mph in their brand new 2023+ trucks that have lane assist, assisted cruise control and braking. You know? The sorts of specs no owner operator gets but will actually be mandatory in 2024 on all new trucks. But o/o usually run older trucks. Nice little anticompetitive deal for the megas. Probably though saftey groups raise enough of a fuss that it'll be one size fits all.

Powerful livestock associations will make sure that segment gets exempted the same as they did with ELD. This is how it will go down.

Are you independent? You don't have to comply with it. Do you realize how many people are out here in brand new trucks with "1999" engines. Nobody cares. It's all a big joke.
