Do not say that you fell asleep at the wheel on your application. Follow Chinatown's advice and figure out what was reported. That will tell the story. They may have just said workplace violation or something simple like that. Hopefully your future employer won't want details.

Also, don’t let your trainer sleep while you are driving. Find a company that requires the trainer to be awake in the passenger seat at all times. No teaming/training nonsense.

You were let go for more than just letting your head drift back for one second. That was the final straw that broke the camel's back.

Sip on 5 hour energy to keep yourself awake if you have to. Pretend that the person you love the most is in the back of the truck sleeping and if you pass out they are going to die.

A big part of trucking is having and using common sense and knowing that when you use it you're going to get an authority figure/bullyboy angry at you.

There's no good excuse for falling asleep at the wheel. If the load has to be late while I calm myself down and take a power nap, then so be it. It rarely happens, but when it does I shut the phone off and rest.

Have you had other episodes of falling asleep at the wrong time before? I work with a guy, outside of trucking. If he isn't talking or moving he will be asleep in 5 seconds. I'm pretty sure he has undiagnosed sleep apnea but he laughs off any suggestion he get tested. When you wake up do you feel rested or do you feel like a corpse being pulled out of the coffin? How well do you sleep in the moving truck? Having an excuse for briefly falling asleep isn't the same as being safe behind the wheel. You don't know how long you will sleep when you fall asleep behind the wheel. I've "blacked out" behind the wheel while driving while tired. I woke up 10 miles further down the rode than I intended. I changed everything and made my sleep my #1 priority in trucking. It's not your job to make everyone else's promises come true. It's your job to be safe and legal.

Ever wake up, moving, and not know where you are because you've been drive-napping?
I had it happen a couple of times when I was younger and dumber. We were chasing wildfires, it was a bad year, and nobody was paying attention to hours. You'd just drive 'til you puked.
I only mention it because the OP could be leading up to an incident like that. It's happened to other people and they didn't get to wake up.

"Sleepy driving = drunk driving" (basically)

Pulling over to take a nap somewhere is a lot like pulling over because the road has iced up.

    It's a safety issue.

Your carrier would MUCH RATHER hear that you stopped to get some rest -- than you were asleep -- and now upside down in the ditch (or median). o_O
