2010 Prostar with ISM long crank to start

    Looking for any advice to start troubleshooting.

    2010 Prostar with Cummins ISM. Everytime I go to start it it cranks along time. Always starts but cranks for too long.

    Doesn't matter if its hot or cold weather. Ive tried cycling the key multiple times, leaving it on if it needs to warm up screens. Its usually pretty consistent in how long it takes to crank and start which makes me think it is something electrical.

    It has a FS 19624 fuel filter/separator, and from my research that is correct.
    No separate lift pumps on ISM, the pump seems to be working fine because it runs great once started.

    My '94 M11 will have what I consider "long" cranks from time to time. (2.5-3 sec)

    Usually turn out the petcock on my BF1259 fuel filer isn't as tight as could be..

    What are you considering "long" cranking time.?

    Id say getting close to 5 seconds. Which seems very long to me.

    I will check the drain bolt on the filter and all lines around there again, thanks for the reply and info.

    There should be a compucheck plug on the side of the fuel pump you can measure output fuel pressure from. Cranking pressure should be 25 psi or higher. When pumps start to get old, they get weak and cannot drawn the fuel as well anymore and cannot build enough pressure during crank to cause long starts. If your pressure is taking a long time to build up, it could be time for a new pump. Some trucks also have test fittings before the pump, on the filter header for measuring inlet restriction. 6" of Mercury is about standard max allowable for inlet restriction. If inlet restriction is ok and fuel is not aerated, it might be pump time.

    Thank you Heavy D, I was hoping the International Master was going to see my thread and drop some knowledge!
    I will check the pressure on cranking and report back.

    Picked up this old Coke truck from California and brought it to the farm to spend its retirement years hauling grain. This was its first season and it did really well. IMG_20231001_1909400439_HDR.jpg
