Hey folks,
I'll be starting truck school in the next couple weeks (barring any unforeseen stupidity on the part of the unemployment department). I was a construction estimator for a speciality construction firm for the 2 years before my lay-off and an auto mechanic at a GM dealership for the 5 or so years before that... Talk about limiting my options
Anyhow, I have 2 pre-hire letters so far: Werner and Covenant. I'll be sending out more applications as things progress. Can anyone suggest companies to apply to that hire right out of truck school (especially, companies on the West coast)?
Also, what can I expect as far as time away from my family in the beginning? I'm hearing things like 6-9 weeks out with 2 days at home in the beginning. Is this accurate? I've also heard things like 2 weeks out with one day home. How does that work? I mean, is it usually kind-of a generous day (28-30 hours) or is it more like a short day... kiss the kids, service the wife and run out the door kind of thing?
Oh, one last thing I forgot about... I have no medical issues except sleep apnea. Will this cause me problems getting hired and will most companies be able to accommodate my need for a small inverter in the sleeper to run the machine?
TIA
Starting school soon...
