I dont know if this is in the right spot. Here it goes. My husband works for Western Express and he has been sitting in Birmingham for 2 days now because they say they have nothing for him to do. Is this common with them or what?

Freight nationwide is running very slow right now. In some cases, and in some places, they have 5 trucks sitting waiting for every outbound load they have. Jan-Feb is normally a slow time of the year, but this year seems to be a hair slower than normal.

Will it affect him getting to come home next weekend like they promised? He has been home 1 day out of 4 weeks. His daughter misses him and so do I.

No one here can supply that answer. It rests between him, his dispatchers and load planners and a bunch of other things.

He is getting irritated, because this isnt the first time since he started earlier this month he has had to wait. On top of that he is getting the crap loads. Guarenteed $1000 a week my foot. How is going to get that if they dont give him enough miles to run to make it?

Funny. We're busier than usual where I work, for this time of year that is.

Maybe I should correct my statement then. Truckload freight is running slow right now, and truckload carriers are feeling the pinch more than LTL carriers. I too am staying busy, no noticable slowdown for us to speak of.

Flatbed freight seems to be picking up. Building supply places are now stocking up after allowing their inventories to drop for the end of the year.

yes this may very well affect his weekend home for next week, especially if he gets a load going the opposite direction..........its a shamefull fact of life on the road(s). when a load does become available for him, he should just take it and not refuse to go where they tell him to go.

as far as "guaranteed" income of $1,000.00 per week, he needs to re-read the fine print (as you should too) as i'm sure there will be a "disclaimer" regarding freight movement during various times of the year. as far as you and your daughter missing him, and him missing you, sorry to say, but get used to it, because this is going to happen many more times.

and if he quits his current job for something better, expect the same crap again..........its afterall, the trucking business, and disapointments are abound each and every day.

there just isn't anyway to say this nicely, its trucking..........
