2,000 pounds of marijuana found in semi truck

Police in Monroe County found 2,000 pounds of marijuana hidden among crates of plastic pellets during a Sunday morning inspection that was triggered when the semi truck was found to be overweight.

The high-grade pot, which was being hauled from Texas to Detroit, is believed to be worth anywhere from $800,000 to $3 million, depending on how it was broken down and sold on the streets, said Lt. Luke Davis of the Office of Monroe Narcotics Investigations (OMNI).

"It's a big shipment," Lt. Davis said. "The minimum value is $800,000 if bought in bulk - and that would be dirt cheap."

Two El Paso, Texas, men are in the Monroe County jail after being charged with felony drug delivery charges. They were in a rig that pulled into the Monroe County weigh scales near Luna Pier about 5:30 a.m. when it was discovered that the cargo was 140 pounds overweight.
