    Hello everyone,

I was hoping someone can give me some advice here.

I'm an OO in Washington State, with 1 truck. My son wants to get his CDL. Is it worth it for me to try to get all the credentials for him to get his CDL through me? This process is so confusing and I'm not sure If I have to be registered with the state AND the fmcsa as an instructor.

Anyone here who has became an "instructor" so your employees could get their CDL through you?

Or should he just pay the 5k for CDL school and have it in 4 weeks.

Thanks in advance for any and all input!

I don't recommend this. The FMCSA has issued rulemaking that requires ELDT training and as an OO you are not set up to do that!

    Sorry!

You could but it would be a huge pia in my opinion.
First you would need to be certified as a training instructor..Then see what your insurance has to say about training someone with zero experience..this could be insanely expensive. While you could get away without the insurance for the range training, you’ll need it for the BTW public roads driving.

Here is a FMCSA link to read through. The new ELDT requirements pretty much put an end to Dad teaching son. Best I could recommend is he goes to a regular certified school and then have Dad put him through “finishing school” to teach him actual reality of the job.

    Good luck

Another important issue Will insurance let you have a unlicensed driver train in your truck.
