EPES TRANSPORT-Greensboro, NC

Does anybody know anything about Epes Transport out of Greenesboro,Nc. I have looked around on here cant come up with much.Didnt know if maybe yall have talk to some unhappy drivers or happy drivers out on the road.I aint otr so i dont see much of them.I have also tried finding info on the internet also but all i can come up is what there website says and sometimes goin on what the company its self says can get you in a pinch in a hurry.Thanks you all for the help and god bless you and yours.

 

Their brokerage division has some of the cheapest rates that I have ever run across, FWIW. That's actually saying quite a bit, because there is no shortage of cheap brokers and I figure I've spoken with almost all of 'em.

 

They are cheap...but if you work them...you can sometimes get them to give you more money....If not...go down the list.....

A phone call is cheap...talk to someone from recruiting...

Just do the research....You never know....They might turn out to be a great employer...

 

I don't even call on their postings anymore. Why tie up the phone when someone decent might be posting? It does bother me when they call me with .70 and .80 cpm freight. I mean, I don't call you out of the blue to insult you, so don't do it to me. If you are that cheap, just post it and let people call you. I only take loads off of the boards as a last resort, anyhow, I don't expect the load board freight rates to ever be high dollar.

I always tell brokers what I need to haul their freight. I always give them a specific dollar figure. That way, they can call back if they get desperate. It happens from time to time. If I have hauled for them in the past, I let them know and give them their load number. I don't expect a broker to offer a good rate to a cold caller-- that's just asking to get your accounts stolen.

You're right, Ron, that doesn't mean that they are a bad carrier to work for as a company driver. It does mean that they have excess freight, which is a good sign for a driver. Also, I can't say that they have ever been dishonest, just cheap. That's why I put FWIW before my post.

 

I hauled aquarium parts for a broker...I won't mention their name...but they are known for being cheap....

Anyways...it was permit load and they posted the rate...which I couldn't believe it being high.....I took it got my permits for Cali and AZ and made $3.50/m on that load...

Apparently they couldn't find anybody who could secure the permits on Monday, be ready for the pick-up Tuesday...and be ready to unload at 5 am in Tempe the next Morning...

I check their loads from time to time...they're still cheap.....but they also use a lot of "NAFTA" trucks and O/O's who don't know what a BPE is.....

Like you said...be ready when they get desperate.....

Closing in on my 90 day probation period with EPES. First class organization all the way as far as I am concerned. Orientation was a bit intense (3 1/2 days), but I suppose that is a good thing. Not like we just sat around and shot the bull, 8-5 every day, and every hour was full with exception to an hour for lunch-which they provided. (Subway that you custom ordered, plus refund you 10.00 per day for dinner.) Private rooms at Sleep Inn and shuttle service to and fro.
Trucks are assigned at random. Just because you are new does not nescessarily mean you get a worn out peice of crap tractor. While they have a few '07 Columbias left inthe fleet, I was assigned an '09 Prostar. A couple of my "classmates" did get an '07, but a couple got brand new '2010 Cascadia's too. Upside to gettting one of the '07's is, as soon as they reach 450-500,000 miles, you will be the first to get a brand new tractor. Although mine is an '09, I have to wait another 250,000 miles b4 I get a new one..
Miles are pretty consistant. generally I have been pre-assigned a load b4 even reaching my destination. If you want to run, the miles are there. Even being home every weekend, I have still manage to average 2500 miles or so-some weeks 3000+.
I have a great driver-manager. He keeps me rolling and the few minor problems that have popped up, he has been quick to remedy to my satisfaction.
Epes runs primarily east of I-35 and guarantee you home every weekend, so they are selective whom they hire and where you live. One of our sister companies (Texas Star Express), do most of the Texas and west of I-35 freight. There is no forced dispatch to NYC, Long Island or Canada, but do pay an extra 125.00 for deliveries there (75.00 to Canada).

I delivered to the Valdosta, GA Lowes DC a few days ago and saw an EPES truck pulling a Scales trailer out of the Scales Terminal directly across from Lowes DC. There were EPES bobtail parked in the Scales terminal as well as one TExas Express truck and trailer.
Does EPES own any stake in Scales Express out of Tifton, GA? Or vise-versa..
