The fuel island is NOT meant to be a squeegee TRUCK WASH!

Define "too much time". In my narrow view, that can be as bad as someone going in to eat, or whatever. Why not park in a parking space, or at least out of the fuel drive?

 

I did the mathematics on this today. I pulled up to the pump with nearly both 150 gallon tanks empty & DEF more than half full. There was a driver already there finish fuel & def then pulled forward. Waited about 6 minutes on duty.

I needed 2x 150 gallon tanks filled up.. was about 275 gallons of diesel and then 20 gallons for def. The fuel/def flow in the pumps, good flow speed at Quiktrip. Fuel took 8 minutes to top off, def took 2 minutes. The total time it took me in the aisle was 12 minutes, set up hoses, did a walk around I cleaned all the windows & mirrors. The extra two minutes was spent topping off both 150 gallons and then the Def tank set up at the end and fill up. The driver that was in front of me prior was only in the aisle for about six minutes, after he pulled forwarded he was in and out of the store and drove off before I even topped off fuel tanks closed caps and went to def. When I pulled forward nobody was behind me, I went in the store, bathroom, grabbed a drink, came back out. There was still nobody behind me and my 30 minute break was done, I just drove off to delivery the end.

but on averages

• 5 minutes pre-fuel pump
• 15 minutes at the fuel pump
• 10 minutes after one pulled forward

30 minute break completed, drive off

Driver doesn’t bother anyone, waste everyone’s time, their time or hold anyone up during the entire process. Etc etc

 

You have just completed a common sense owner operator 30 minute break. A company driver break doesn't work like that. A company 30 min break means you cannot do anything to the truck including fuel it. Must be parked and 90% of the time engine shutdown. Lol

 

I drive a company truck (tanker) and I do exactly the same thing.

 

I’m that guy who keeps his ear to the ground listening to the tea leaves for a better opportunity. Not that I hop around because I don’t. Started driving 4 years ago and I’m still with the same company I started with.

That said I’m not to sure were the 90% comes from. As I said I keep my ear open so I tend to strike up conversations in the fuel isle to see if I’m missing something significant. I’ve heard a lot of nonsense which I file under the heading of no way in hell would I work there.

On the other hand, what I do see is quite a few drivers pull in and fuel, pull up and run inside. Then the crawl over to a curb somewhere usually out of the way and stop. Five or ten minutes later they pull out.

Now I’m not saying they every one of those drivers are combining all that time into a 30, but I see it often enough and realize we are all on a time limit. So it’s going to take a lot to convince me that many drivers are wasting say 15 minutes by only logging the time they actually sit in the truck as a break then at some point stop again to complete a text book 30. Of course none of this drivers are driving a white Cascadia with blue lettering, nor are they driving a big orange rig or driving for any other mega carrier.

During these informal surveys it seems some companies monitor everything about a driver’s day. I’ve had drivers tell me among other things they will get a call if they go 1-2 miles above a company maximum speed. Others say they are given very specific routes and are even told exactly what place to fuel and how many gallons of fuel to buy still others talk about people being fired for simply opening their cab door because someone called in and reported them for violating a company 24 hour bottle to throttle rule even though went straight to the sleeper without cranking the truck.

I don’t need those headaches. Instead I drive for a company that dispatches me and leaves me the +*^% alone. Though still governed my truck passes those guys so every day I can either drive more miles or drive the same number of miles in less time and be better rested. Our mileage pay is as good as all but the people who say they 70-80 cents an hour. We’ve got good healthcare, disability, 401k with match etc….

I’d much rather have what I have than be micromanaged.

Same at Schneider. On duty time can be counted in your 30 minute break.

 

Man, I see this type of crapola happening all the time. Just two days ago at the Love's in Italy, TX I pulled into pump 17 at the fuel island behind two trucks. It was a really busy day there and the entire fuel island was two to three trucks deep waiting for fuel. After 15 minutes of no movement I got out to see if the trucks in front of me had drivers and I see the Crapcadia at the pump with a water hose and this
jack-wagon took the water hose off of the pressure washer that the Love's maintenance guy was using to wash the pavement and he proceeded to wash a farmers driveway worth of mud off of his truck. This guy had cow turd plops of mud dropping off of the truck and he splattered mud all over the place.

This waste of sperm had the fuel island looking like they do after a teenager takes his Daddy's 4 wheel drive out mudding and has to clean it up before he got home.

I watched a driver give is Century a squeegee bath at tht fuel island last week whilst holding up the line. That guy got the entire truck with the squeegee except for the roof.

Why do these drivers have so much time to waste at the fuel island? ######?
