back in the construction days that's what we called it when someone called in sick on monday. funny how some people got sick on mondays only LOL

 

Your not at home, you are responsible for the safe operation of that truck, Do not drink period. If in the situation you described, I would not put the key in the ignition, only enter and exit from the passenger side paying very close attention to stay out of the driver seat. Go straight into the sleeper and do not answer the door. I would not operate anything till sober say maybe 24 hours. I would absolutely tell dispatch I had a couple of beers with dinner and that I would not move this truck,period. They may not like it,, but they will get over it.

Best is don't drink, second best get a room stay away from the truck completely.

You have not hurt or killed anyone, and at this point you could get another job if needed.

Its not worth the gamble of killing someone, just to get a driver home. Even thought dispatchers always tell you theres no other way, there is and its there job to find it not yours.

Wow, quite honestly I think if you can't go a good period of time without alcohol, being a truck driver isn't the job for you, IMO. I mean is it really worth the potential risk or hassle to have a beer or two or three? Maybe if you were to do as kwray suggested, get a hotel room if you're going to be out and want to drink. I dunno, people do what they want, eventually the consequences of their actions catch up to them, just at what price and to whom is the question.

 

Every company has goofy rules that are basically unenforceable. If u have nothing in your system who cares when you were drinking. More than once I have grabbed a six pack, drank one or two, and left the rest for the next guy.

Some goofballs on this board may liken my aberrent behavior to pedophilia. I call it taking the edge off after a hard day. People in normal walks of life do this all the time - it's why they have happy hours.

Canadian drivers can carry beer in their truck. I'm guessing they can also drink it when they are parked for the night. Not sure, maybe a Canadian can chime in on the discussion.

When Powder Joints goes to have the stick removed from his arse, I hope the doctor is drunk and accidentally pushes it in a little further.

Finally, I am more concerned with the lack of common sense and human decency than whether a driver had a beer 10 hours ago.

 

schneider's rule is actually 8 hrs have to pass b4 you can operate their unit, however, why risk it? i just wait until i go home, and then i let loose.....lol. oh yea, im new to the board.

 

I'll throw this in here,make your own decision,,,,in my days before driving trucks i got a dui and was sent to jail,along with a fuel tanker driver who still had a measurable amount in his system(0.02-well below legal limits),,while i was definitely dui in my case,,his penalty was more severe,,,his second trailer turned over and killed someone,,he was charged with felony dui/manslaughter. he was drinking at home the night before his accident AND had went to sleep,,,like i said,make your own decision
