As far to the starboard side of where they should’ve been by how it looks in the videos, how did the ship not bury the keel?

We had that happen out in the Chesapeake Bay about 2 miles north of the Bay Bridge a couple years ago which was another headache.

Wow, another twist, another convoluted gyration, this story just keeps getting legs.

Next complication will be - if you back it out, it could rupture the gas line.
Might have to be offloaded in place to reduce the draft?
    IDK?
That's IF it is actually on the bottom.

You can't make this shi! up, nobody would believe it.

When the Sunshine Skyway bridge in Tampa went down (it didn't have the bumpers), the powers that be decided that all new bridges built would have those "bumper islands" around them. So bridges built after that have them but there was never a requirement to retroactively require them for older bridges.

so from this 1980 skyway collapse until now - no one learned anything? Nothing?

All the intertwining governmental agencies jurisdictions
didn't think it would be a good idea
to retrofit the bridges that have large ship traffic
with protective bumpers around the piles?

    W923 and kemosabi49 Thank this.

Don't forget "The Sunset Limited" when a barge hit the bridge in Alabama. 47 people killed in the deadliest train accident in Amtrak history.
