Have you tried them with a hydraulic detach where the neck comes down at the back of the frame. I think it might end up inside of the fenders but I haven’t really explored that yet. Unfortunately for mounting fenders the top of the tire will get 3-4 inches above the top of the frame…it’s a rubber block walking beam setup.

I have not. I only have mechanicals and fixed neck trailers. Since my RGNs are both mechanical I always have the fifth wheel slid to the back for pulling the neck off.

I have about 4" on each side between the outside edge of the frame and the inside edge of the fenders.

Might be hard with that kind of suspension setup. I only have about 4" of total travel from ride height to dumped. With the bags dumped and no fenders my tires are even with the top of my fifthwheel slider track.

In the late 70's I ran a winch truck/heavy hauler and it was on walking beam. After we ran into the same problem the shop added small airbags to the back axle that were regulated and on a switch. They also helped with winching weight transfer when lifting a load.

Were they used to improve the ride or just to try and stabilize things

Finally decided to do something..... That crane took 2.5 weeks due to a series of stupid events. Then I took 2 weeks off and. Narrowly escaped a hurricane.

Finally something that isn't on the no picture list. Just a couple of used tanks to a factory dairy farm in New York. (Something I am totally against!) 20240711_094056.jpeg

West coast trailers fascinate me. I almost bought an older Cozad 2+2+2 to haul our 345 without removing the counterweight, but we don't move it enough to warrant an additional trailer.

I assume you have a two axle booster, and I also assume that your booster axles and trailer axles scale out pretty much the same as each other? I'd love to pull one long enough to understand how to load them.
