Good luck with your retirement from trucking. I've only followed parts of your adventures here, but can relate to retiring a little early in part due to health. It just wasn't worth it to keep driving for me, and I've been so glad I quit when I did.
You can always make more money, but you can't make more time and none of us are getting any younger. I hope you enjoy whatever life brings you as much as I've been enjoying retirement.

    Good on ya.
The only reason I'm still around is a private carrier.
    No docks,pallets or appointments.
    Not to mention the truckstops.
    Good luck brother.

You're good with your hands and you have a bunch of rich Californians moving to the Omaha metro area with more money than they know what to do with after selling their overpriced Californian homes and paying cash for the houses in Omaha.

Get on Facebook, make a business page, give a discount to your first 20 clients or so, start getting referrals, up your prices, and make good money doing simple home repair work.

Such as putting in new window screens, ground level deck work if you know how to do that, putting together IKEA furniture, putting new fans or light fixtures up, laying bathroom tile, fixing door handles and putting new doors in, simple plumbing repairs, new sink installations, lawn mower tune ups, lawn mower repairs, pressure washing the driveway, etc etc.

    Get creative with it.

Combine your handyman business with Uber, get on Obamacare or your wife's plan if you're under 65, and you might find that within a couple of months you'll be making as much as you did with trucking, when you consider truckers work 50 hour minimum, with 60-70 hours being the average.

Hope it all works out for you, whatever you decide to do.

Thanks you guys! But It pisses me off how these companies lie and how little respect they show towards older drivers that have paid they're dues .
They can take a hike .

Actually I've already done well on those that are uneducated on the affects of ethanol gas on fuel systems .

The decision to stay or go in trucking is solely yours, and I would agree for the most part after 21 years of doing this myself that most companies genuinely don’t care, but the pain and discomfort as well as the leg swelling brought on by driving can be controlled by you. Make the efforts to get out and walk, a healthy diet is attainable on the road, you have to get in the mindset to want it though. Relax on the beers, enjoy them, but don’t over indulge. Of course this is coming from someone you’ve never met, just another 40 year old truck driver, but like stated earlier Ive been at it 21 years. Your health can greatly improve from a conscience effort to do so, you can also tell me to pound rocks if you’d like :). Best of luck either way.
