On a 7% grade with a load on and 20 mph switchbacks I’d probably ride 6th gear of a 10 speed all the way down.

Might take a while, but at least we’d still be in one piece with the greasy side down.

Here’s your new paint scheme once you get a hood and windshield put on. :D

I doubt you could come up it in the #6 hole so you sure wouldn’t want to try going down it without thinking a little bit about it — old man I worked for told me one time “You little MF’er you slow it down, I pay you by the hour and if you ever have one tiny thought in your little zipper head that ####s about to go bad you put that big MF’er in the mountain side ditch and we’ll figure the rest out later” his words have stayed with me most of my adult life

Well, with the way they speced our old trucks, 8th would have you redlining at about 50. That’s enough to handle I-68 with about 30K on board.

4th was usually sufficient to handle the 9% hills in PA since that’s about what it would take to climb it.

    Thus... the rough guesstimation. ;)

Now, these garbage automatics they have us driving now is a horse of another color.

@Oxbow said he seen a video of some HH guy with an automatic that was do’n #### he didn’t think he could do with his iron— don’t know, but they have some rigs out there… never mind, I do this as a hobby anymore and I like the old stuff so I ain’t the guy that should be commenting on things

Lewiston grade is much the same way, and they built the new alignment in the 70s also as I recall. Also on 95 @MACK E-6 , around 80 miles north of Whitebird.
