I don't think it's a terrible decision to take the Dollar Tree account. If you really want the Dollar Tree gig, you should go for it. Always do you, regardless of the feedback. Everyone in this industry has opinions. Sure there will be challenges. You've lived it so far. Everyone is saying to avoid it because some of these stores are difficult to maneuver in or back into when making a delivery. There will be challenges and learning curves regardless of the job you select. One thing is common across the board, with adequate preparation, you'll be fine. If they hire you, just take a look at the area on Google maps satellite mode. It'll help you to develop a strategy ahead of time. Plus, you're on here so any of us can help.

Just a little side note. Not 100% sure if its true, but someone told me what the difference is between attempted 1st degree murder and attempted 2nd. If any of the shots are above the waist, it's attempted first. Well 4 out of 6 were above the waist for me.

6 entry holes and 5 exit holes?

It's hard to even imagine it happening, much less experiencing it. I hope you are doing OK.

Thanks Bryan. I think I will take it. It’s either going to turn me into an expert backer or have me looking into another line of work. Either way I can’t stay where I am. They just sent me to Philly and I’m expecting NYC after that. I won’t be going to NYC.

So after this man attempted, and nearly succeeded, to kill you, did you get your eight months off?

Good luck with the new venture. Just take your time and don’t let folks rush you. The backing skills will come with patience

    @Chi Town Steers

Did you look at McLane? I bought my first truck from them in upstate NY. In 2016. They made 60 to 100k. No one wants food service. You will unload 40k groceries every two days. Nobody wants to do that. If your going to do dollar general, why not get to the place that only does that?

Tankers? Do you have your hazmat?

Ask sni if you can transfer if you don't like the DG account. They seem to be a better company.

Well Yes, I would expect that out of a company that hires some drivers who should never be allowed to drive a pedal car. Your story isn't the worst I have heard but it may be self-inflicted.

See, one thing that you keep missing is you didn't tell them you are not going to take their crap when you had the little accident. You caved, that was a green light to them. This specific company that uses people who are in desperate positions, and it is normal for them to do this when the driver has no respect for themselves.

When you had your accident, you should have pushed for the "trainer" to get fired to give a clear message that they did wrong but you didn't, so they have no respect for you, you are just another meat in the seat, another serf to just do a job.
Of course they didn't, the first thing I think I said to you is to get a lawyer involved. You ignored that advice, you knowing more than I do, you acted like they would do you right.

See you missed the point that it isn't just about you, it is something that is about more than you; it would have put you in a better position not just then but now.

You are stuck with that bill, so pay it.
First, your vet status is meaningless. Don't even bring it up when trying to justify your actions and decisions or try to bash me for my comment.

Second, it isn't part of the norm with 90% of the drivers out there, they don't get abused right out of the gate like you allowed yourself to be.
    AND?

YOU DO NOT HAVE EXPERIENCE IN THIS INDUSTRY DOING THIS JOB, I DO AND SO DO MILLIONS OF OTHERS.

If your feelings are hurt, get this - we advise you to avoid problems. We ALL want you to be the best you possibly can for this to be a career, a profession if you want, and we want you to be as safe as possible for all that is around you and yourself. We are not picking on you.

My experience is both driver and owner. I know what a crap company is and what one isn't. I take care of my drivers if someone gets hurt, I don't pay lip service to them and make bullish*** promises, I act on their behalf.

You may not understand why I go the extra mile as very few owners do, but I don't have a revolving door with drivers coming and going because the driver is the most important piece for owners like me.
See you are fighting for pennies when you should be working for dollars.

My god, you want to take time off, then return to fight for pennies again, what's wrong with you?

You need time in the seat, you need to work on your skills and stop acting like you know it all.
