People seem to get offended for whatever small reason these days.
Saying 'we' or not closing old threads or using any number of seemingly innocent words.

The fact is, many older threads that have been dormant for years still have useful information. And sometimes even more useful information comes in when those threads are brought back to life, as in more recent information that might not have been available before or has changed over time.

    Numb and Peplow Thank this.

The optimal solution involves a more time-intensive approach for a staff member, specifically the automatic moderation of a thread after a predetermined date. This method allows legitimate questions from the past to be revisited and potentially foster intelligent discussions, while also curbing attempted trolling. However, considering that staff members volunteer their time, this may not be feasible. Additionally, the forum software owner may not offer this feature without modifying the code.

I’d personally rather someone use the search and post to an existing one if it’s relevant than start another.

I was chatting with another longtime member several minutes ago and they brought up something interesting. When people ask questions about a topic and make new threads over time it causes the search to get cluttered with threads.

It’s 6 of one and ½ dozen of the other. You’ll always get one guy complaining that the thread is too old and dead while another guy will complain they don’t use the search function when they do start a new thread.

I think some people come here precisely to BE offended. Probably have a need for drama in their life. Kinda like that old Monty Python skit; "I've come here for an argument..."

I only pointed out the age of the thread because the respondent was a "Johnny-come-lately", and maybe he was actually expecting a response from a decade-
old thread. For all we know, the OP may have been out of the business for YEARS, or maybe not even alive anymore.

Or, in the opposite direction, if there was ever anything useful in that "What if it snows?" thread, it's now completely lost in that 'LaBrea tarpit of drivel' it has become. Seriously, that thread should've died YEARS ago....
