The state tax is 6% buuut
Counties here can raise that..Al depends on the county. Mine adds another 1% for a total of 7%.

Trailers are exemption from sales tax in Tn if you have motor carrier authority or you are leased to a carrier.

A little wrong there, we have a rolling stock exception for all vehicles used in interstate commerce. When I register new trucks in Michigan, I bring in either my carrier info for my authority or my lease contracts; this exempts me from any taxes.

Bean Jr. and Siinman Thank this.

Ritchie Bros auction sells units from multiple states and is trying to stay up with requirements, so, much easier to collect sales tax to keep tax authorities off their arse. I would think they can disburse any collected taxes to proper state.
