First..if you’re looking at trucking only as a solution to homelessness then it probably isn’t going to end well. If you got bitten by the bug to be a trucker and are passionate about it then you will succeed. It’s surely a unique lifestyle and one that takes some getting used to but..you’ll end up either loving or hating it.

As far as schooling goes, private is the best way. Unfortunately if you can’t swing $5,300 (Sage Truck Driving School) then carrier sponsored is about your only option. Got to be real careful because some of them charge a ton more than private training..because they can easily take advantage of a person down on their luck.

Just a couple random fwiw statements..

Ask the forum about a particular school you’re interested in attending.. There’s so much experience in this forum you will know if a place or program is trash or good to go. Same with carriers you are thinking about. Jump in with knowledge and you’ll avoid some hard lessons.

I wouldn’t recommend this industry to anyone. Over the short 9 years I’ve been doing it there’s been a huge noticeable negative difference from when I started.

Personally I’d look into the med field if I was you. Specifically, start out as an LPN which is a course that costs about the same as getting a CDL and will pay better than starting out trucking.

Don’t get into OTR trucking just because you need a place to sleep..it won’t work. Go OTR because you really want the lifestyle and love the thought of trucking.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

"I am 25F and I have decided to go into trucking because I have to move out of where I am staying July 17th."

That's as good a reason as any.

Just the truck stops will make you glad you thought this through

When you talk to cdl school recruiters, don't say anything about being homeless.
Just say, you need and want a new career and trucking looks good because you won't be stuck in one place all the time.

    Something is off about this.

But if my suspicions are correct, any of you guys reading this thinking of sending a 25 year old girl money to meet up with you deserve to get scammed

First, welcome, and you came to the right place. Since you awoke a sleeping giant, Chinatown has more than enough references, but some basic things 1st. It's never good going into a new venture as desperate as you seem to be. Probably half of all new truck drivers go into trucking for the very same reasons, the last game in town and for many, it doesn't work. I mean no disrespect, but do you have any knowledge of what trucking is? It's long hours, poor weather, traffic, poor eating and sleeping and health concerns, almost half of new drivers quit in the 1st 6 months.
If you must, however, in your situation, I'd go directly to the outfit you want to drive for. They will help with tuition, even have a job waiting and can pay off the schooling, that's the route I'd go. Good luck, you may need it.
