Something about these guys and most companies with that email thing.
LOL.You're always better off calling them. Most of these places will answer any question you may have. If they're rather rude and pushy, do you want to be around a company like that? A reputable company realizes that each employee is an "ambassador" for the company. I'd rather be called something else, like a representative or something, but you see what I mean.
A word to all, regardless of who you may want to drive for. After submitting an online app. Call the company to verify they got it, and if they have any questions. Remember, you should be interviewing them as well.![]()

I have the number for the West Memphis office that I have been talking with and the name of the person - if you want me to I can PM those to you, just let me know. -
I absolutely concur. It is not only about a company hiring you, but what company you want to feel yourself a part of. That is why it is so important to get as many pre-hires as you can. That gives you the most options as to where to go and puts you in a more powerful and in control position. It does not give you negotiating rights, but it does give you peace of mind knowing that you are not just stuck going with the first company that is willing to hire you.
I was applying for companies two weeks before I started school and had seven pre-hires. Oh, and research as much and as many companies as your time allows using this site, company websites, and google. Also as you hit the truck stops and in traveling the local interstates, pay attention to what companies are represented on the road and which companies do you see consistently in this area. Those are the companies you should be researching because these are their freight lanes and they should be able to get you home easier.
Not that I recommend them, but my last week of school, Western Express out of Nashville is again taking students. I did not apply with them, but it might be another option for you.
SNI took two weeks after I had applied to call me. I should have done like Johnday said and called after I submitted my application online.
My best advice is be very proactive in going after these companies.
Good luckRockyWI, johnday, The Challenger and 2 others Thank this. -

With that school's designation, it should open up Crete as a possible employer because I think they require that if you are coming straight from a school. If memory serves correct, my research showed only two schools in TN with that certification. Both were Tech schools.
And thanks for the blog site. -
Hey Bigcove,
Yeah, Im not so much under the Gun ! working full time # a job I HATE ! Walmart midnights in the backroom..I know, trucking is hard and lonely and sometimes thankless..but my hope is that it is all that with a few dollars in Your pocket ! I'm misreable AND Broke..lol. (pay of $600 every two weeks) with little chance of working days or getting out of the backroom..I will make 17.5 K a year if i stay, I would hope with a little luck and hard work I could double that and still have a life and see something else other than the buzzing flourescent lights of the stock room. Thankful for my job and walmarts paycheck..but I hope there is more job satisfaction in trucking ( gotta have a great week sometimes..right ?) So ill call the school monday and see what they say..thanks for the heads up on possible waiting list !
BTW..Check out the other links that girl puts on Her drivers blog, some of the blogs she links to are pretty good too.bigcove Thanks this. -
I was in a manufacturing environment for 18 years, so I can feel your pain on seeing the same sights every time you work.
My best advice is just be very pro-active in your job search - don't be intimidated in applying with any company. Many companies are self-intuitive as far as knowing you will get a no when they ask for three years experience, but do not hesitate to apply for any place you feel is a possibility. Remember, the worst thing they can tell you is no and that wont kill you. I am sure you have heard it a time or two before.
Good luck and I hope that if there is a waiting list at Nashville Tech, it is not a long one. -
GRC,
You are probably busy getting ready for your move back to TN. I was just wondering if you have any updates for us. Any updates for us newbies are appreciated.
