If it was me I’d throw the Mercedes away. Along with every bolt that touched it. I’d put a CAT in it and move on. If it isn’t worth that I’d junk the whole thing.

I say CAT because that is what I’m most familiar with. Detroit, ISX, Briggs and Stratton would be equally as good it just comes down to what you’re most comfortable with.

If you like the truck and want to keep it you may want to repower it. I'd go with an electronic Cat motor, 40 or 70 pin with one turbo, but lots of people like Series 60 Detroit's. Honestly, I really don't like those Benz motors.

Yeah, I'm hearing that a lot.
Every so often you hear someone who likes them.
I ran this a couple years, didn't have the power my 6NZ has but was ok.
Just has this bad head gasket oil leak and thought I could fix that inexpensive enough I could run a couple more years.
I guess I was looking for a Detroit expert who might know the MBE fixes.
