Where is everyone #5

Years ago, in this forum, there was this hand called MJ that took this young girl under his wing. She had to work the farm, milk cows, make her own trident for ice fishing (they lived upstate Minnesota). She saved her money she earned to buy a Benelli M4 for duck hunting. This was 10 years ago now. That M4 costs today $2500 or more, so a decade ago, that would be a $2000 shotgun. That’s a whole lot of cow milking, but she did it. Thought the world of MJ for taking a kid under his wing whose own father wasn’t in the picture.

I don’t remember if it was MJ or another forum member that used to duck hunt, but he documented the training of a new bird dog. Fascinating to me. IMO, anything hunting, fishing or farming is the stuff that everyone is going to want to know when SHTF.

Is the person you heard about this from the same one you're buy ammo from. I've never heard of such.

Supposed to stress out the reloading mech and lap it in. The then cleaning is needed on any fired weapon, but they stress it...

Sorta like opening the governor on a new one in Ft Wayne running it governed at 2750 (wide open) down to Ft Knox. Loosen the bridle and cruise at the 2750, + and - the 1K home, occasionally hitting the high spots to 3K off and on for a mile or so. Kind of set a wider range for the future. Hush now, I have brought several of them out like that and all would run, pull, and none had any early engine problems not attributable to a definite later cause.

Personal opinion.
I buy a new shotgun; recently made and at current prices. I better not have to burn 5 boxes of 3 inch to loosen it up to not jam/fail to feed level.
Gun be going back to dealer to mfg. to hand hone his metal.

(Be sumpin if Colt and Winchester had required this on the SA 45''s and old 30:30's.)

 

I run a box or 2 of ammo thru my shotguns.
Then I disassemble and look for any parts making contact without lube, and any burrs or sharp edges that need a little dressing.
Reassemble all nice and greasy where it needs to be. They always run better after that.

 

Mike last count I had worked at a Dodge dealership. Still farming too, loves to fish and hunt. Seemed to be a good guy. Forgot my password and after I got the new phone I’ve not been able to drop in and say hi…..

 

Speaking of shotguns, while going through dad’s stuff I brought home I found a little zip up folding pouch. Unzipped it and found like 6 choke tubes with the wrench for a Benelli or Beretta, don’t remember which now since I don’t own either…..

I had a Winchester pump, with Win Choke. That sounds like it. The 1 in it, other 2 and the hooked nosed blued wrench in a brown corrugated folded packet,
I think full, modified and improved cyl? Had the choke engraved on the knurl, look close...Narrow band of knurl, but prolly 1.5 inchtube in all
Gave the gun to a nephew, as he was about to spend 1200 on something. And no more than a veterinarian makes now, he did not need to do that.
