For 4yrs, I've spent my time gaining experience as a company driver so that I could eventually end up pulling tankers/cryo-hauling.

Within the past year, I'd decided to take a 6 month sabbatical to work on my old house, which ended up turning into a 15 month project, due to being badly affected by the flooding, which took place last August in the midwest.

I'd like to go back to work now; but I'm not sure how a potential employer might feel about the gap in my work history. So, I'm wondering if it would look more favorable to them if I were to take a refresher CDL-A course. Would that show initiative on my part, or would a future employer more likely suggest that I work 6 months at another trucking company before I apply to them? Especially if it's cryo-hauling.

I know this is delayed, but I am only posting for information for future viewers It largely depends on how long you've been out of the truck. To everyone's point, each company is different. Where i work, they allow for a little wiggle room. They want 1 year experience in the last 3. If you've only been out of the truck 15 months, you can find somewhere to work without a refresher. You won't necessarily have your pick of the litter, but there are places that will hire you.
