It sure is. Most expensive deer hit my shop manager has ever seen. Other than that though, I DO like my Prostar for a work truck. Wouldn't want to live in it though. Mine is just a daycab.

I just read a new TSI on Maxxforces. Everyone knows the exhaust brake is almost useless, so International has released a program update to have the fan come on when the exhaust brake comes on for added engine breaking if you want. The only thing is, (and International admitted this in the TSI), is that the fan will stay on for several minutes after it has been commanded to turn off by the ECM. Anyone with a Maxxforce knows how long it takes for the fan to turn off after you shut off the fan override switch. It takes forever!!! Well in the TSI, (Technical Service Information), International says to expect the fan to stay on for several minutes after the exhaust brake has turned off as this is normal for this type of fan clutch. They are also saying to expect a 5% drop in fuel economy because the fan runs longer than needed after the exhaust brake shuts off!!! So they try to improve one thing, but degrade another! Lame!

Thats pretty ###### considering everybody else only limits you to 30-60 seconds not several minutes.

When these first came out and we were fixing other things and then went on a road test I almost turned around and came back to the shop thinking the fan was stuck on, that is how awkwardly long it is.

I just LOVE the idea of using a fan for an engine brake. Could they be any more lame than that? That is freaking hilarious. Next time I'm going down a pretty good grade, I guess I'll turn on my fan to "help" slow me down! -

I still hate them, but there are some good things for next years model. They are eliminating the one cooler over the rocker cover, so it won't cost you $1000 for a topend set. There will be an actual engine brake instead of the piss-poor exhaust brake. The head gaskets are dry type, coolant supply to the head goes in and out through hoses, and I think the oil supply is feed by a line too and gravity drain. This means less failures due to coolant and oil leaks. Well, on paper anyway...

As a kenworth salesman, naturally I hate Navistar. I'm glad they have enough credits to go around the emissions for right now, but they have spread so many lies about scr that I can't remember them all. I have sold several 2010 emission trucks already. One had a bad sensor that said it would be limited to 5 mph in 40 hours or 1,000 miles, and the others have been flawless. a local heavy hauler is getting 1.2 mpg better than his previous 2006 trucks, never mind his '08s. This system is going as expected so far
