Adventure of Werner orientation in Springfield

How bad is it in Allentown, PA. 99% sure I will be going there next month. Out of the few dozen Companies I talked to, they were the only one to return my calls. Just want to know what I might be in for. I know if I want to go far, I gotta show initiative. I gotta show them I want it. But is Allentown that much worse than the others.

 

Hell, I neverrrrrr go to terminals unless i have to. Went to indy last night (they dont red tag in indy FYI) for a load, guard says i have a safety hold but.."that doesnt mean anything on a weekend" ROFL. Guess that means ill be going back soon.

I dont ever ask them to go to a truckstop either, unless its more tha 15 miles or so. It says "contact dispatch before leaving current location", i send em a message TELLING THEM, not ASKING, where im going..ehehehehe. I just get a macro 37 back (OK)

That's.....the worst terminal, period. PERIOD. That's the only one that I had to wait 4 days for my truck to even be TOUCHED by maintenance. Bumping everyone ahead of me because omg they're under a load (how come i always get my load taken away if i go to a terminal?) Indy is next to that, they made me wait 3 days to touch it! And...didnt fix it!

but that's the shop, the rest of the terminal wasnt bad. I even had to sit in the orientation class for an hour or so, cause I had to do a random and I couldnt pee, and Danny, the instructor, has a pretty cool attitude. I liked the way he dealt with the students. He and the safety guy and one of the mechanics ride harleys to work on occasion.

 

Phroziac, My first dispatch solo was from Salt Lake City to Laredo. Sat there for three days then did a load to Dallas Term back to Laredo and sat there the rest of the time untill it was close for my hometime which was in MN. That was a cluster in itself but I got home none the less.
AGin I was new and yet and followed the book at that time. But now Im not with Werneer due to fam. probs. But I did learn things. But yes the nights and weekends dispacther were easier to get along with than the ones that worked dur5ing the week.

I'm thinkin maybe i should set my hometime for like 4 weeks out, then bam, oh, i wanna take it tomorrrrow! wonder how thatd work out....

And yeah, i hear ya about dispatch. Truck broke down today, towed 30 miles out of route to a dealership, but...it was also an hour from home, so the wrecker man dropped me off at the truckstop across the street (dealer was closed but he had the gate codes), and i got my mommma to pick me up there..so im home on time, no thanks to freightliner!

I called dispatch to tell them the bills are in the box if they want to swap the load out. I was told, and i quote, "ITS LATE? OMFG!!!!!!", then a pause and "oh, its already marked as late and they haven't set an appointment yet." i said...."so you wanna know where it is?" and he said..."I dont care!" hahaha...

I guarantee you that in the morning, the dealer is not going to have a clue why theres a werner tractor in front of the service department door with the driveshaft laying on the catwalk....and dispatch is gonna be callin me askin why im late.. lol...

 

i left werner in 2007 for a job close to home. the wonderful new york economy made sure that job didnt last. i am planning on returning to werner soon. recruiting told me i will have to do 140 co-driver hrs. with a trainer.. u know i cant wait. theres no way im waiting a week for a trainer though.

 

allentown is a mud hole...... very dirty. not much there at all. the hotel is not around anything. the people are nice though....lol

 

The hotel is nice though, and werner is paying $40 a room for $200 rooms there. What werner pays matters because you will find that with this company, if you stay at the official motel by a terminal for any reason, whether its for orientation or a breakdown, you will have to bunk up with another driver......or pay half of what werner pays to get it to yourself.

allentown's mud is not bad. Atleast it's not indy or chicago (channahon)

 

yeah i got sucked in and found out the hard way, its a joke. after a little bit of research i found out that werenr is maing a killing off new hires not only do they run you dry but they get money from the government for each unemployed person they hire. so its win win for a major company like Werner just my opinion

 

I joined on with werener about a month ago. Went to orientation in Dallas.. Seems like an alright terminal. Orientation was extremely boring. I only waiting about 4 1/2 hours after finishing orientation. I had signed on the dg account and was training on that. Trainer drove up to OK and then we headed to el paso. Then back to Dallas where I had to be dripped off and sent home due to "issues" with my drivers lisence (I just moved to tx from nv 2 days before going to Werner). So I was sent home on a leave of absence to get a new DL, just waiting for it in the mail now to head back out. It wasn't
too bad. Trainer could have been a little better but got some
hours in.
