Boy, talk about reopening an old thread... Then again any chance to laugh at Swift is a good thing.
-
I saw the heading of this thread and saw who it pertained to and decided I would share this little story about SWIFT.
A couple of years ago I was coming across Colorado with a wide load and had to shut down at the tunnel on 70.Due to maint. only one tunnel was open and the CO. D.O.T. would come thru at 0800 and 1600 to shut down one lane and escort wide loads thru.
So here I sit shooting the breeze with the D.O.T worker while we wait for 1600.He tells me that "last week a SWIFT driver sat all day waiting on him to escort him thru".He said it was a regular van trlr and when he asked the driver how wide he was the driver responded "I have no idea".
SWIFT indeed. -
Swift does not corner the market on stupidity. Although, I have seen some doozies while I worked there. But I'll look at a few independents:
A guy with a beautiful Pete was trying to poke his equally beautiful trailer into a slot next to my Swift truck that was about 1 1/2 regular spots wide. He was having a hard time with the slope of the parking lot, but had plenty of room to work with. He got frustrated, copped a 'tude and hammered down to leave. In the process, he raked the left side of his trailer across a truck that was parked on the other side of my Swift truck so hard that it dragged the tractor over about six feet. His trailer lost three tires, two rims and banged up the bottom rail pretty good on that side.
I was watching another independent guy in Troutdale trying to back into a slot before the Idle-Aire was installed. He simply could not get that trailer to go where he wanted it to. I finally exited my Swift truck and went over to see whether he needed a hand. He said he didn't understand why this Star Leasing trailer was so difficult to work with, the last one was a lot easier. I observed his tandems all the way to the rear of the trailer and asked why he hadn't slid them forward a little so he'd have more room to work with in the front. His response..."Those wheels move???"
And finally...I was at the Flying J in Rescaca, GA sitting in the back row clear off to the side in my Celtic Carriers truck. Seven slots to my left, there was a lone USA truck parked centered in his spot, all by his lonesome. On the other side of him were five more empty slots. Along comes an independent around the corner past me, goes toward the USA truck and gets himself all lined up to park for the night...and plants the corner of his trailer directly in the center of the USA truck's grill. This not being good enough, he pulls away from it a little and then floors it in reverse, completing the job of destroying the charge air cooler, radiator and grill. Then he tried to take off. But, luckily, he didn't get far. And yes, I was on the radio and hanging on the air horn to try to get him to stop. I didn't think even a training company driver could miss seven parking spots all together.
They are everywhere. -
The USA truck demolish job may have been intentional.
I over heard a driver telling about how he did in a Swift truck at the J in Gary IN.
It seems that a Swift driver had destroyed his truck like they are famous for doing. But
Swift and Co wouldn't pay for the damages. So when opportunity presented itself he
proceeded to cost them more than they cost him.
Like I said, I over heard this one day at a truck stop. Take it for what its worth. -
Mr. Brickman: If you had met the independent in question, you would probably put him in different camp than someone who got nailed and then left high and dry. I had the misfortune of his temporary proximity to my person. In this case, the non-English-speaking, barely literate and extremely soap-and-water challenged ...er... individual... didn't have the brain cells to rub two thoughts together long enough to build such a resentment.

Injun you are correct...they are everywhere. But this is a Swift thread so........
To be honest,I think the worst ones I've seen are Werner.I know everybody had to learn and we all made our share of mistakes, but, only Werner has left me standing in the lot speechless. At some point they had to demonstrate their abilities and someone else had to sign off and turn them loose.Injun Thanks this.
