is it possible to some degree to avoid driving during the 7am-9am time, or 4pm-7pm time, or both, so to avoid the traffic. it seems like common sense to me that it's better to sleep during a time when you may spend that time stuck in a traffic jam anyway. and then be awake during time when you can make good speed and get more accomplished with your time. so do you have any choice in teh matter abotu that? my guess is that it's somewhere in between. sometimes you do, sometimes you don't?

Well u can avoid some but not all. I manage to avoid afair bit but its easier for me than some my average trip is about 2000 miles one way I find the shorter the trip the harder it is. I also tend not to do mornings well so i'll drive till 2-3 am and sleep till 9-10am I miss morning rush but sometimes hit afternoon but usually I try to stop at night so I can drive through the big cities right when I get up. I know other drivers that will get up at 3am and be done by 3pm or so. Hope it helps

Driving at night is a good way, seems like no matter how much I try to get my schedule on days, it always reverts back to nights.

With the fourteen hour rule the way it is now, the only way to do it and it makes sense to not waste hours diving in a parking lot, is to cut your day short, if it works out that way. I drive shorter trips, mostly, so that is not an option for me, bad weather makes the rush period much slower and much longer, especially around Chicago-land.

To answer your question Attrintal, yes and no. Depends on what you have to do, such as drop and hook, or deliver by appt for a live unload. You may be able to sneak into town for an early AM appt, but you need to know where to stop (i had this happen, 0600 appt at Menard's in Chicago, was able to sleep in the parking lot the night before to make my appt).
