I would like to read some opinions about the new ACERT Cat engines. I am fixin to trade my old faithful for a newer one and I am looking at one with a 500 ACERT CAT engine, 18 speed tranny with 3:36's. The motor has less than 200K miles. Would like to know your experiences with it, fuel mileage, shop time etc.

There is a reason the truck is 3 years old with that low of mileage. If the sale is private, take him and the truck serial number to the dealer and get the repair history.
Ask about the cost of buying an engine warranty if it does not have any left.
if it is at a dealer ask if you can talk to the previous owner?
Nothing on that engine is cheap, they take more time to fix than most.
On the oil cooler there is a tag that tells you the MM3 of fuel it burns to make maximum HP, compare it to other trucks, at any dealership you can. Detroit's and Cummins are on the valve covers.DIESEL WEASEL Thanks this. -
I have a 06 MXS ACERTsince new I like it. Its been in the shop 1 time and that was for an exhaust manifold. I get about 5.9 to 6.2 with it running local lotsa hills and 2 lane roads. I also have a 05 ISX. It gets better mpgs I've not had it that long. I would buy a ACERT again as far as the ISX

I own a 07 pete with the twin turbo accert that has been in the shop twice. Both times for minor problems. (370,000 miles) I pull a 8 axle setup so the fuel milage is bad. I like the accert and read many folks diss it but, mines great.

DW,
Is this the truck serial number XXXXXXXXXXXX90254, if it is I am showing a few more miles on it. If not check your engine serial number again.

Appreciate your input, fellows, I really do. I am not decided yet as to buying it or not. I am approved with the bank and all, but I am trying to get back at it after a 15 month break from the road. This thing is in a W-900L and used to belong to a company that hauled grain. The mileage history is average of 6.2 mpg. Not bad for a truck that size, in my opinion. If I do it, I either pull tanker of flat bed with it. Right now I am looking at Quality Distribution and Liquid Transport for tanker work and CRST Malone and Mercer for flat bed work. Rates on all 4 companies are very similar, averaging around 1.68 to 1.84 per mile to the truck. Still doing research as to what others are saying about the companies. Thanks again!!

I have an '07 NXS and I love it. I've got almost 500,000 miles on it and the only problems I've had is the IVT's once, an injector wire that rubbed itself raw under the valve cover, and something else very minor I can't even think of right now. It's a good engine. Once I bought a Bully Dog Power Pup for it the fuel mileage came way up. These engines really need it, badly. Stock it was very hard on fuel. Once you've got that, you've got a killer engine that you simply cannot fault.
