Some weeks you MAY take home $2K but most you will not. Being an O/O means not having a consistent income week to week... some weeks you hit a home run... some weeks you don't make squat.
You have to salt away some cash for future expenses... if you don't have $10K in the bank for emergencies it's going to be tuff. Sure you get a fuel card and advances but that $$$ comes out of your settlements.
I made excellent $$$ with Mercer... but I still had poor weeks... it's part of the life. If you have to have $2K a week after expenses every week I think you are looking at the wrong industry.

what i liked most about them is your independence you run your business landstar does not and they don't even try you load and go when you please as much as you please and you take off when you please your choice your business.
they give liberal advances on every load, now some say they dont take advsnces well to me that is just plain nuts i don't use my money to haul some one elses freight i always take an advance if i dont need it i keep it in my pocket but i take it .
if i were to lease to some one again it would be landstar and only landstar i recomend them highly there honest and good people .
now eveyone does not do good with landstar if you need some one to hold your hand and do every thing for you well landstar is not for you they don't but if you can take care of your own business then you will do well with them.
best of luck to you. southernpridescottied67 Thanks this. -
In all honesty I would still believe the felony might have played a part in Landstar's decision. But try mercer or even maybe Daily express. Both of those seem like decent places. When I can get another truck or ever think about buying another truck I was thinking of mercer or daily myself.

Pulling $2000 a week?! Wow. I'd love to get that consistently. And I know - before you say it... it was like that in the olden days... If your husband's friends are pulling that kind of scratch, what is there to say that one of them couldn't hire him initially so he's running and builds some experience with landstar. It might be a situation where they'd let him run under another driver and builds the O/O experience up and gets familiar with the way they run.

I thought having a felony pre-cluded one from L.S. for ever. Ya cant go to Canada, and many of their hi value customers would'nt like having known felons having their freight. Even Swift wont hire a felon. Sorry but second chances are too much risk of most large corporations. Just easier to say no than to make an exeception, then sorry later If there was a problem.

I like this advice. I too was ready to become an O/O. I quit my company trucking job and decided to go back. Tried working for 2 O/O's and have yet to get paid. And if your hubby is with a company that has good equipment, count your blessings. I wanted control over my life and in the end, each time I made a move to the 'greener grass', I lost ground. I'm just trying to make it to age 62 and take an early retirement. Hopefully I can find something local and work for about 3-4 days a week and call it a life.
Best Wishes. -
32swife, i would like to make a suggestion,i have a friend that did his own thing, he was a company driver, went out and bought himself a truck and a trailer, the only payments he has is his trailer payment and insurance, and maint fund, now his truck is a 2000 notice it aint new, and he runs off the load boards,it's taken him 4 mths to make alot of his contacts(some brokers, some shipperdirect deals) but he is doing fine ,but buy no means dos he take home $2000 a week,he pays him self enought to pay his home bills, if your looking for a high weekly income it's not gona happen ,,,my friends second month out he lost a weeks woth of wages to the truck(a new turbo) cost him $3500 in repairs,,,,, and here it is 2 mths later $650 for to trailer tires now these are the only problems he has had, and he's been lucky ,,,,,my point being if you need $8000 a mth to live on i would look at cutting my exspences befor buying a truck,,,,,,Remember a truck is ike a boat,,,a hole in the water you throw money into,,,,the up keep on a truck can make you or break you very quickly,,,,,,,,,this is just my suggestion i wish you all the luck
