Marten is very strict and almost look for a reason to fire you after you have been there a year. The company has changed a lot over the last couple of years. The only good thing I can say is there epuipment is very good. They like experienced drivers; they just don't want to keep them around too long. They go through a lot of dispatchers it seems. I am guessing it is a very stressful place to work for dispatchers.

:biggrin_25513:Martens .16 per mile pay means if you get fired, hurt, or apply for a loan, you get hosed. You get 17 cents a mile per diem, which the goverment sez is for you in the first place. Benifits and loans are based on gross pay. Marten might save you $25 a week in taxes. Just don't get fired or hurt on the job. I never thought it would happen to me after 10 years of safe driving. Its easy to get fired at Marten. And if they can do it just before you earn your vacation, they will. Just warning you.

I have to say every company is strict, and I would be to if I was the boss. No matter were you work there are rules from working downtown from the mail room to the office on the 30th floor. Which one is it, the company rules weigh's out the good of the company, or does the good out weigh's the bad explain.

Does marten go into nyc a lot? Is it forced? Can you fuel when you want and run your own routes?what's home time like? I see a lot of angry ppl about forced per diem, don't alll companys force it?

yeah, they go to NYC. They tried to send me to the bronx, but I said no, and that was that, then they gave me another load instead. You can fuel where you want, but must be pilot or flying J. You choose your own route. I do hometime every two weeks, and take 3 days off. More and more carriers are doing the per diem thing now. It won't be long and they all will be doing it. Just got to grin and bear it I guess.

All company drivers are forced dispatched.
We actually have a fuel book with fuel stops,, not all flying j's are approved. I have the current list of the j's and there are a whole bunch in ME. we cannot use

I stay out 30 days, take 5-6 days off never had a problem. Taking 11 days off for vacation here soon, i keep the truck at home with me.

Yes we can route ourselves, as long as there is at least one fuel stop on it.
We have ez pass, for tolls, but we also have to follow a toll guide for routing to the east/ north east. not all tolls are approved. KS,OK,CO,TX CA, NOT PART OF EZ PASS. So cash is needed.
    I will find a way
Yes the co. does do NYC, but the closest i have been to is NJ. I will find a way not to go to NYC or Long Island

I thought if you take more then 7 days off, you have to clean your truck out so that they can give it to a newbe, then they give you another truck on your return. Some driver told me this awhile back. Don't know if it's true or not.

That policy is a little in flux, but per my old OTR dispatcher:
OTR can take up to 14 days off before they want to clean the truck out and get it rolling.
    Regional can take 7.
Possibly apocryphal, but one of the midwest region drivers took 7 days paid vacation, came back for a day to load and drop a trailer, then took 7 more days paid vacation so she could keep her truck :D

    rachi Thanks this.

I live 400 miles plus from the nearest termianl. Im not about to take it to the term, clean it out, then try to find a ride home, then come back in 14 days and get put in a pos truck.
I was in Ontario a couple of weeks ago, and there was 20 trucks not assigned,Irving had 15, and in Mondovi a week and half ago, where over 300 new trucks are waiting for drivers. so makes no sense to turn your tk in when going on vacation
