Our president needs a copy of that study. He seems to think everythig is honky dory here! What's he smokin' these days! Reading about the homeless makes me sad and angry about the way our govenment spends our taxpayers money. Grant you that some people are homeless and should not be but, there are many circumstances wherein people worked all their life and loss everything for one reason or the other. Like long term illnesses, accidental injuries sustained, etc.,[IMG]

Unemployment is so low its getting so you can't find a
good burger any more. Mcdonalds is afraid to fire cause
they can't find good help. Want to slow down homelessness?
Start by getting that fence built on our southern border and
slowing down the drugs that come up here. After its built
keep some teams working, repairing, fortifying and
distroying tunnels. Most of these homeless people are
that way because of drugs, mental illness, or being
illegal imagrants. Make border security a priority and
that will help 2 out of three.

I'm skeptical of the burger comment, and even if it's true it's not as if you can get much more than homelessness working for Mc Donalds with what they pay. :)

Just like the cause of poverty it's the indivual not the governments responsibility to change their lives. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if people actually took responsibility for themselves? What can the government do that hasn't been done? There are programs, public and private that are avaliable for people like this. The truth of the matter is, there's an underlying problem with these people like drugs, alcohol, or mental illiness that the source of this. If the people aren't willing to deal with their issue, then the government won't beable to fix it.

I know what you're talking about. I know a lady that has a bad back she can't work, can't sleep. She's on disability, medicade. It's hard on her, until Friday night when she goes to the Moose lodge for dancing and drinking. I've seen a guy downtown Indianapolis that works in the same building as I do. He's missing both legs and is wheelchair bond, but he has a job. Interesting.

I should mention that the lady with the bad back, my wife and I just adopted her grandson, because her kid won't work either and lost all 4 of her kids.

The responsibility of the government is what we decide it is. If you want to be greedy, and let your fellow man suffer then it's definitely not the responsibility of the government, you're right. You can't just generalize all people in poverty as simply being alcoholics, mentally ill, etc. There are people that are just down on their luck, or have never caught a break.

Here we go with the "every WRONG THING is Bush's fault" crowd.
    Homelessness has been going on for thousands of years. well at least a few years before GWB was elected. MOST people who are HOMELESS are homeless because;
    1. of a BAD choice (or a series of bad choices) THEY MADE.....or
    2. Mental illness
and NOT because GWB (or any Republican for that matter) is in the White House.

Regardless of what the Democrats want you to believe, most fast-food resteraunts are forced to pay upwards of $10-$12 per hour ( and sometimes more) for help, because they compete with employers like Walmart (who DOES pay about $10 to start).
