Be very grateful you stopped when you did, the first bridge you would have hit would have you bringing the trailer back to Pittston about 3 feet shorter in height.

I made it to my pick up in Castroville around 1pm local time only to find out that my berries where not quite ready. It was a nice 6 hour wait until I was told to back in. They had my load all staged on the dock and I was loaded with my 28 pallets of product in 45 minutes.

I went to the Pilot in Salinas to scale out and to my amazement I was grossing 64k and didn't have to move any axles, nothing like the load out that's for sure. Believe it or not, I was able to find a parking spot at 6pm, had dinner and left about 7pm local time.

I made it to the top of Donner at 3am my time and called it a night. The bad thing about this late ending time is that it equates to a late starting time the next day, so that is what I am playing with this trip back. I woke up, cooked myself some breakfast, had some coffee and left. I fueled and showered in Sparks then drove to Ft. Bridger Wy. and called it a night. I was able to end my 11 hours of driving in 11:45 minutes so I was able to start yesterday morning earlier.

I woke up, fueled and drove 505 miles without stopping. I made it to my fuel stop in Grand Island Ne last night at 11:30 and went to bed. Woke up, fueled and showered and was on the road by 9:30 this morning.

Right now I'm back in Brooklyn.....Iowa eating lunch and playing on line for a while.

I had an uneventful drive this morning until I got into Iowa. At the 76 m/m at the top of the hill was a big truck laid over on it's side. Not too cool, especially going up hill. At least the driver was ok. Not so at the 159 m/m. There was a 4 person fatality accident that was caused by a kid that veered off the road, over corrected, swerved back and hit a big trucks trailer right where the reefer tank is, then swerved back across traffic and hit a car head on killing 4 people. This was not good, it made me rethink everything I do out here while driving this truck. The bottom line is we can be as careful as we can, drive over 2 million safe miles and we can't control the other guy. I said a prayer, thanked God for watching over me and went on my way. Unfortunately this trip will only be remembered for that accident and nothing else. Be safe all, God Bless.

hi JohnBoy just wanting to know if Calex has freight in and out of Florida or not. And how is your relationship with them is it still going strong just wanting to know. I will pray for those who lost their lives and pray for those drivers like your self that are on the road and drive up on horrific accidents like the one you was writing about. And like you unfortunately may not be the last one we will see in this line of work be safe hope to hear from you soon

Johnboy, just wanted to drop you a line and say I have followed your thread since it's inception, and that I really enjoy your posts. It's nice to see that there are still some good companies out there. Keep the informative posts coming and be safe.

Absolutely they have freight into Florida. There are five of us that live in Florida and we run home every week. We have something like 15 loads per week going in to the same customers, and this has been going on long before I got there. Gary and I run out west every 4-6 weeks just for a change of scenery. If you look back a few pages you will find my 1 year report card on Calex's and my relationship. It has gotten better for me over the last year only because I'm settled in and am home every week, (excluding the west coast runs). Thank you for your kind words and thoughts and prayers.
