Well, the biggest thing is insurance. I would pick a state to live in then start calling insurance companies who insure in that state and take it from there.

If you can get and afford insurance and have the cash to run then the rest is easy except for you....We drive on the correct side of the road!!! lol

I could NEVER move to your country and drive anything. All the times I've been to Sydney I had to wait forever at a road crossing trying to think which way to look before crossing. Everyone knew I was from the states though. I wore shorts and WHITE socks.

More then likely being in Sydney they definately would of thought you were from out of state then when you spoke they'd really know you were from outa town , where i am at the moment its sandshoes and no socks cause of all the humidity or just plain barefoot . yeah insurance sure must cost abit i was thinking of starting up in Utah thats where i was based when i worked there back in 05/06 thats where i also have all the business connections too.

I would call Northland and see if they insure there and what is required to prove you have been driving. You may have to take the written and driving test again here also? Not sure.

Yeah when i first went over we got our licenses done in TX for some reason i think it was cause once we left the country they would automatically expire apparently the TX 1 didn't the thing was though when we were based in UT we should of changed over to a UT license anyway do you always have to go for a driving test every time you change states? Over here if we change states you just go in and get a new license no tests are required they just do a straight transfer.

I know when I moved to Iowa for a while I had to take the written test over again just for my normal car license. I think it depends on the state.

If your Utah CDL has not expired most states will just issue a new one, if you record is not in question. Actually I had a leadfoot when I was a young soldier and the best way to keep my insurance down was to take a 2-3 year oversea Army tour. also for a start up the lowest state fees are in Texas, and Texas and nevada do not have personal state incometax, thats a 8 to 19% pay raise to start with. good Luck

I wish I would have read something like this before investing in a rig. I'm feeling sick to my stomach now..... Nightwind what is your oppinion on this? I have decided to invest my money into buying a vacuum truck for my area here in West Tx since oilfield is booming for now. I have no trucking experience but my friend that will be driving does (15) years to be exact. The bank financed me the Truck and trailer and gave me only 10k operating money for 1month. I have additional money that I have been saving for many years but would hate to dip into it more than I already have. I will be leaseing under someone else in the mean time till I can get more knowledge in this type of business and get my foot in the door in order to run on my own. My expenses will be the rig, fuel, insurance, maitenance and driver. My buddy has agreed to not having health insurance for at least a year till I can get this going. I purchased extended warranty on the engine only 100k mile. Do you think I'm on the right path or just digging a grave so deep that I will never get out of? I never knew how much of a headache and sleepless nights this would be just to get this started... My hats off to you and those that have succeded.

    Thank you
