awesome i just tried to update my tnd 700 and its giving me a cannot copy files error. i now have a $500 paperweight. i do have a back up of my tnd from last week. can i use this to fix the problem or is this one of those "only a trainer professional can fix" kind of problems? Well the "restore" thing was a waste of time. What do i need to do to fix this? do i need to fix a file? Hit the reset button? Do not tell me i have to take it to a rand mcnally shop to have them fix it. it cant be that hard. it just wont copy files. it still works but i cant update it because of the copy file error. tell me how to fix it. if i need to fix a file i can do that. if something is corrupt let me know i can change code if needed. just tell me what to do .

update: well due to me screwing around i now have a system file missing. i deleted some folders that you said in another thread and im guessing i shouldn't of done that. is there a way to fix this or do i now have to send it in and be without a gps for couple weeks. i really hope there is a way to reflash this thing by email, updater, something, anything. help me help me help me help me.

I'm Waiting for my second tnd500 replacement unit to arrive. the first one i bought in feb and two weeks ago i got a insert sd card message. I called rand mcnally up and they stated it was a software is issue and i sent that one in and they shipped in a replacement unit. the replacement unit took a crap on the first day on the job. The replacement unit would start up and shut off and the battery was fully charged. Now i'm waiting on the second unit to arrive. I was thinking of upgrading it to the TND700 but after reading your post, I'll pass. MAYBE i cant get a refund and I'll go but a Garmin.

Guys lets keep this thread alive, We're kinda getting the short end of the stick here.

BTW on a positive note. they have been really helpful, especially the rep i spoke to (DONNA), she has been very helpful and understanding. At least Rand Mcnally has stepped up to the plate. I'm just a little frustrated with this issue. we all have shelled out our hard earned dollars for these units. Hey at least i know how to navigate without a GPS , Only using a map and a cellphone. Unlike some drivers in my company that will not go anywhere without their garmins. they need to darn GPS to use the bathroom.

well im HOPING that tech support or someone can just email me a way to fix this without sending it in. i mean for the price we pay for these things they should have a way for truckers on the road to fix them if the problems comes up. they know the business we are i and sending something in then waiting 2-3 weeks for it to be sent back is ridiculous. im out for a month at a time so sending something out isnt a option really when im in another state.

as off now i dont think thy're doing it that way. it looks like the only way is to send it in. they must think our office stays in the same place like theirs, ours moves 48 states.

yeah i figured as much. for someone that supports truckers you think they would know that we cant afford to sit at home and wait for this thing to get fixed. they need a way through the updater to replace the files that are missing. i mean its a file. shouldn't be that hard to do through a updater. if Microsoft can replace entire operating systems through the net then i think rand should be able to replace 4 files.

regarding the eta issue.. I have it set for the *added extra time* eta.. maxed out and it still won't slow down enough for my truck governed at 60 in a state with a 75 limit. I find also even in states where the truck speed limit is 60 and car's 70 it goes by the car speed... can't slow it down enough to be accurate for the truck. After using it for 6 months... I mentally adjust. Most of the time though it is very close.

Let me address the ETA. In truck tools\truck info\ETA adjustment, where is your setting?

Google has more resource computing power that any navigation device. But, they only route using car data. The TND and some other navigation devices use NavTeq. If the core database is incorrect, then the navigation device will have some routing mis-directions. If you run into these, by all means let Rand know via the Tell Rand or post it here.

If you set your TND to car mode it would probably follow the route as close as your phone since all truck restrictions are taken off.

The TND looks for routing that is truck legal. Is the road STAA? What is the weight limit, height, length, etc, etc. Just because other trucks are on the road does not mean it is legal. Many states have restricted roads without a physical sign to let you know.

Remember the TND is a navigation tool.

    Thanks,
    Mark
