I never heard this and can't find it in the book. I always log to the nearest 15 minutes; if it's 8:07, I log 8:00, if it's 8:08, I log 8:15.
Anyone wanna shed some light on this?

You can take the two hours on line one or two, just as long as it's a break of some sort. But, the eight hours is required to be in the sleeper.
Nothing says that you actually have to be sleeping, which ends up with eight hours of watching TV in the sleeper being worth more than the same amount of time sleeping in a motel. Seems like there really should be an exception made if you can show that you were sleeping somewhere else, but if there is I am not aware of it. -
You must be off for a period of 10 hours either through off duty or in the sleeper, through a combination that equals 10.
Otherwise, could you be off duty at home for a break if you have to be in the sleeper? -
The paragraph below comes from the FMCSA website. The only way around it is to show 10 consecutive hours of off duty in place of the 8 hrs in the sleeper.

Drivers using the sleeper berth provision must take at least 8 consecutive hours in the sleeper berth, plus a separate 2 consecutive hours either in the sleeper berth, off duty, or any combination of the two. -
I think you are confusing a 10 hour break with a split break.
For the 10 hour you can be on either line one or two. You can be in the sleeper doing whatever, at home doing whatever, or pretty much anywhere doing pretty much anything as long as you are not working.
For a split break, you can do that with your two hour break. The 8 must be in the sleeper.

If you are doing a split break, it says the 8 consecutive hours must be in the sleeper.
Not seeing anywhere where it says you can be out of the sleeper on the 8 hours of your split break. Only place I see that allowed is if you are taking your 10.Half a Load Thanks this.
