That's the idea behind it and what the rules state. For the Canadians also, yet they violate cabotage with regularity and no one cares.

Actually, a Mexican driver who earns the equivalent of $250-$400 dollars a week is not living in poverty in a country where the average factory worker earns $150.00 a week plus benefits.

And it is not Mexican owner operators that would be running in this country but recognized national companies.

Our freight is a helluva lot cheaper than Mexican freight which is why CANACAR opposes US trucks in Mexico. They are worried about their rates being cut. US trucks will run for $.85 cpm (thank you Mr Broker), Mexicans won't.

OOIDA and others are skeering the hell out of everybody when the truth is, the trucks and drivers coming up are not taking American jobs and they are not displacing Americans. Hell, they've been operating here for 50 years. Some of the participants in the pilot program are still operating here legally and we have trucks operating in Mexico. Really, nothing has changed.

That's about the only time fuel has been cheaper down here. True, the Mexican government was subsidizing diesel at a 20% discount for a while, but those subsidies are a thing of the past.

You got the PEMEX monopoly down here where fuel transactions are "open billing".

Just filled up my Jeep Wrangler this morning. 16 gallon tank cost me $495.00 mxn at $8.75 pesos per liter. Diesel prices similar.

It's not people coming here that are taking the jobs away, it's the companies that are sending the jobs overseas that are destroying the American dream.

    Wait, what?

There are no jobs here in the U.S.?

Then how do we manage to have the largest manufacturing economy on the planet?

And the largest economy overall by a factor of 3?

You can live very well here in Mexico on $250 - $400 a week. Wish that were true in the U.S.

Partially true, but the jobs going overseas are in large part, mfg line jobs that barely pay above minimum wage.

The jobs are out there though. I see help wanted signs and ads every day in my travels.

Problem is, it is easier for people to sit at home and suck on the government tit drawing almost $400 a week in unemployment, food stamps, utility assistance and other bennys. Why bother to get off you butt and go to work.

Better to sit and blame someone else for your failures than to take responsibility

Yeah, I guess I'm a failure and failed to take responsibilty for having taking the initiative of going to school, working hard, starting at the bottom and working my way up in my industry (IT), only to see the careers of myself and a great many other persons shipped overseas for cheaper labor. I guess my friend, and guy with a B.S. in Computer Science and a Master in Electrical Engineering who had the latest tech skills, is a failure and failed to take responsibilty because he's unable to find a job after sending out countless resumés and searching for jobs every day of the week, only to find they no longer exist in the U.S.

Please. One thing about trucking is that it can't be outsourced, so a driver has the luxury of jobs being available as longer as he/she remains qualified. Try walking in the shoes of those who have lost livelihoods and careers through no fault of their own before making those kinds of comments. Why do you you think there's an influx of people looking into trucking now? It's because their jobs are gone, and they're grasping for a new career. The U.S. may still be number one in manufacturing right now, but China is poised to take that over http://www.ihsglobalinsight.com/Perspective/PerspectiveDetail13718.htm

People need to wake up and realize what's happening around them in the U.S. There are a LOT of good, responsible, hardworking people out there hurting badly right now.

    I strongly disagree...
What's stopping Obama from say allowing the large carries from utilizing the H1B.....Suspending FMCSA HOS and driver qualification regs to allow for bringing in a huge influx of Mexican drivers?

The unions????...yeah right....How many OTR drivers belong to a union?

Never say never......If every O/O suspended operations and in solidarity every company driver parked it....Obama would give the word and Swift, Hunt, Werner, and CRE would have no problem recruiting Mexican drivers.....To take your job......

I lived pretty comfortably on 1000 a month, (Thats 250 a week for those without good math skills) and very comfortably on 1500, now im not saying i lived like a king, but my place was paid, bills were paid, and had enough to have plenty of fun and pay off my car, its a matter of where, and how, you live. Fast food often etc is a killer eating out at mcdonalds 3 times a week, for 3 people (mom, dad, kid) will run you close to 400 a month...just a thought.
