Go down to the start up tray (bottom right of the monitor),, look for the snow flake, mouse over, then right click and exit.

Then open up your E-Mail and click on attach. go to the C:\logs folder and look for a file that is TNDDock.log with a file date stamp of today. Send me that file.

Thanks,
Mark

My ancient Garmin keeps on getting me mostly were I am going and she is pretty darn good at saying when I'll get there.

Of course today she ran me over a bridge that had i not been empty I might just have broken....

If I could afford to update the map on her I'd keep on using her.

Dear Rand,

I have tried to get both units working the 5inch loaner that mark has sent me. Also my 700 that I purchased and have not had any luck with your product. I was willing to be a beta tester and help your company build a better product for the trucking community. But at this point I cannot see myself going any further with your products in the cab of my truck. As I have been more than understanding the push to get your units in the hands of truck drivers. I have left Mark a voice mail just a short while ago letting him know I will send back the unit he sent me. I am sadden that we cannot do business. I was hoping that when Mark sent a unit it would be ready to use without any problem. But now I am at the point I just wish for a refund and will seek to find another unit from someone else. And also I will be placing this on my Twitter Account that I am displeased with your product so others may be informed before they make such a huge investment in your product.

Michael,

Let's get the record straight. You posted your side of the E-mail, yet you did not post my reply's to you. So since you wish to "air" the laundry, then you opened the door.

1. You had a bad unit.
2. You had called up here plenty of times demanding service "right now".
3. You threatened Rand with posting on twitter to your 10,000 followers about the Support at Rand if you did not get a replacement "right now".

4. I talked to you on the phone and we agreed to sign you as a Beta Tester.
5. I send you a 5" unit to test.
6. I do not get my test units from "new" stock.
7. I have to wait till Rand gets more Test T7E's or I could find one in the returns while I am here in Skokie.
8. I have 90-100 other testers that I also handle.
9. You were informed that until I could get to Skokie this week and go through the returns that your T7E would just have to wait.
10. Once you become a Beta Tester, you fall under me as to your needs, if it is as self owned unit or test unit.
11. I had sent numerous E-Mails to you informing you that I am still looking for a good T7E.
12. In the meantime you have unit.

13. Now the test units run on a Demo license, it expires on a certain time frame. It just so happened, it was set to expire when version 1760 was ready to be pushed out to the production server. The Dock code and the version code were locked till the push to the production server.
14. I informed ALL the testers that yesterday the Beta Dock is being slightly being rewritten to do something to add the Demo license, since in the past we simply E-Mail the demo license out. We changed that policy.
15. It takes time to change code and verify.
16. You called up here at Rand over 20 times DEMANDING service right now.
17. You failed to extend to me the courtesy of doing my job.
18. You were informed that a Rand employee (whom you called 15 times in one day) and myself were in a training class for the customer support personal.
19. You expressed you did not care and WE WERE TO TAKE care of you THEN and NOW.
20. I also explained that other testers were in line ahead of you to get replacement TND 700's. First in/first out.
21. You did not care and told me that you bought your unit.
22. I have other testers whom have bought a unit and if it breaks they understand I do not have an endless source in my home office. Return units have to be re-flashed, tested and verified they work.
23. I work my butt off for the testers, QA, customer support, R&D, Programmers, repairing return units.
24. This does not matter to you. You are the only person in your book that counts.
25. You have threatened Rand several times about posting on twittter with your 10,000 followers.
26. You were informed you signed an NDA and you are covered by the contract you signed for the time period stated in the contract.
27. You were informed if you post on Twitter, that being under the NDA you could be liable for your statements.

I am sorry that I did not put you on top of the pedestal above my other 90+ testers that have not screamed and shouted like you have the last two days because the demo license expired and we did not correct it on the spot for you.

I have been up the past three days with about 5 hours sleep working on issues with the new update and trying to find resolution for Monday for those customers whom have an inoperative TND. They understand and are not screaming.

This does not include me being up since 6am Friday and working till even now on trying to get the Testers up again with a live demo license. They are not screaming.

As you have been informed you have been dropped off the Beta Program. You are to deal directly with customer support.

You need not reply to this post. I have informed you of all the above in numerous E-Mails last night and today.

Mark

Is there a way to tell if the firmware and map for my TND 500 is up to date without connecting to a computer - from the device itself?

Yes and no...

Their are files that have been updated with newer file dates, but their are quite a few of them. I could say yes, but then without a update off the dock you may not have gotten all the latest files.

You can tell on the TND inself - main screen\preferences\device\about - click on that.. upper right on that scren should be 10.9.1760.xxxx.

That will tell you if you are on the correct version. The Maps are a little different. If you have a T5E or T7E then your TND's came with the newest maps, but still we have added file changes, your dowload will not be as great, but it is still needed.

You can update the version and not the maps. The maps can wait till you get home or on a higher speed\more bandwidth from your aircard.

Another note... Some download issues if you tether from your phone. That is a network issue then.

If you have a MiFi and your runs on batteries the batteries may die before the map updates are done.

thanks,
Mark

It's sad to see this happen...
No matter what you make..no matter what you sell... You will never please all of the people all of the time.
Nothing is perfect. No product is w/o it's little issues. I currently own a 5" and a 7" and have had virtually no issues (that a show stoppers) with these.
I would never want Mark's job....he has his hands full.....

Ironically, when I was at the KW dealer (weekly thing for me) I was able to help sell a TND-500 to a fellow trucker. He loves it...

Totally agree, Mark needs a raise! No way would I want to put up with all he has to listen to.

There are glitches in all GPS units & virtually every product on the market. Heck my car Garmin from '07 still will tell me to exit & re-enter the same Interstate in a few spots around the country. However it does seem like R.M. is trying to address the vast majority of them judging from this last update.
