Being light or deadheading won't get you a free pass at the coop.....
I have been pulled for inspections in CO deadheading to my next load.....

Because then we would all know where he is! And that's classified.
-
I keep waiting for him to post a story about something stupid that I did.... Then I can officially respond with a "Nice to finely meet ya" post. Then his location will be sold to the highest bidder on eBay!dieselbear, Working Class Patriot and outerspacehillbilly Thank this.

I don't know where you are getting your facts from however we have to obide to all CARB regs just like any one else.
-
I think greed has a lot to do with it, and I think some of it is wanting to be the best, wanting to be thier dispatchers go to guy, the one who can get the job done. So many drivers fall into that trap at one point in thier life, I know I have.

Not to mention, basic stupidity. . .
-
IIRC pre ECM rigs are no longer allowed to run in Cali....You still see them hauling containers....
IIRC....Pre 2004 rigs without DPF's are not allowed to run in the ports.....You still see them pulling containers....
Many of those rigs have plates other than US or Canada.....That leaves one option..... -
From what I understand and this is from speaking with the DOT in California. Ontario trucks have to obide by the same rules that California trucks go bye.
-
True....the Canadian carrier is complying....We are talking about the "NAFTA-non-compliant-get a free pass from CARB" carriers from the other direction....
I have seen dumps and dump trailers with "Front BC" apportioned plates running on the construction projects for LA/ORG metro...many (Trucks...) are old worn out shakers from the 80's......Hmmmm....Ever wonder where all the rigs from CARB's "One For Two" exchange deal wound up?.....Not at the crushers to be sold to the Chi-Coms that's for sure.....
I'm sure in Maricopa and down El Paso....Laredo, there are "Border rigs" running in those areas as well.....
I have no problem with anyone who wants to come and make a buck...But the exceptions given away by our government is BS.....I have to have a CARB compliant rig to keep my authority or the CA DMV will not issue me my Cab Card!!!!!!!!
How can a legal US or even a legal Canadian carrier compete on an even level with a Mexican carrier who still can run pre-ECM rigs in Cali?
I know what the law says...."no exceptions....ad infinitum".....But there is loophole in the law that allows a carrier to run for a short period of time....IIRC...3 days per year
Seeing how one country doesn't require logs or drug test the drivers....what makes anyone think that they keep track of issued plates?...So switching plates....and taping new numbers (On cardboard held secure by duct-tape no less...Like the port trucks...come on....You have all seen this....) on the sleeper aren't that hard to do.....
Hell...anyone from Cali knows a quick trip to MacArthur Park and a few "Benjamins" can net one a CDL...A social security card....even a TWIC card if one is willing to spend even more dinero...... -
The core of the problem is too many drivers running too hard for too little.
Trucking companies blame the brokers... drivers blame the trucking companies and the shippers... shippers blame the consumers for not wanting to pay more for things...
We've tried the market forces, and they're not working. I long look forward to the day when professionalism and respect return to this trade, but I don't feel it'll be in my lifetime.
