I appreciate all comments made thus far, BUT - a lot of the comments have been negative, some resembling resentment. If you have been lied to by a company representative, call them on it. Jimbo 60 wrote that "most drivers don't want to speak to a recruiter." I don't see why not. This is a prime way to learn about a company's opportunity. Let's face it, we have all done recruiting. Have you ever told another driver that you liked a company for one reason or another or that you've heard good things about a specific company? What's the difference?
You better believe I'm a salesman, proud of it. Nothing moves that hasn't first been sold. We sell ourselves every day, for better or worse. I give my personal cell phone number to everyone I hire and I've done this for years. I let them know not matter what the issue or who else they call, they can call me to. If I don't know the answer to their question, I will find out for them. If they have an issue, I'll help them or get them to ever it takes to get their issue resolved.
To some of you - if you don't like what you do, why do you continue to do it?
To Flatbed - Have you ever sold a house - have you ever bought one? Look at it this way if you want to, I can't lie to these guys because I don't know what lies to tell.
Being new to the industry, I'm taking this as a learning experience. I wanted to come to this industry because it interests me. I am teaching myself everything I can about the industry, that's one reason I posted this blog. I'd be willing to bet not many other driver recruiters have gone this route. I took less money to come to work here than to work 10 miles from the beach in Foley Alabama. Why, nothing gets sold or bought that did not get moved by a truck.

    sewerman Thanks this.

Go and REREAD my post , it had more NEGATIVES against the hireees than a recruiter.
And what does my house purchasing / reselling have to do with whats in my post ?

Because, in this industry, recruiters are paid to get people into orientation, period. It's hard to trust someone who is paid to sing the praises of a particular company.

The difference is that you are getting paid to do it. See above.

If you don't know what lies to tell -- then how do you know what truth to tell?

Here's a question that bothers a lot of folks. -- In the current economy, with many people out of work and, trucking companies closing, leaving thousands of drivers unemployed, why does a company need a recruiter to sell prospective employees on the benefits of working there?

In an employers market, companies shouldn't need recruiters any more than Eskimos need ice cube salesmen.
