I totally disagree, we run a fleet of tankers and before they are polished they are always acid washed. Caliva truck wash and polish is the best in the business and that is the way he does it. http://www.calivaspolish.com/wash.html Here is a picture of one of our trailers Caliva polished

Not the best picture, from my iphone actually.
Left wheel is a "before" and right is an "after". Hope I didn't really need to explain that:biggrin_2556:. Not like brand new, but good enough for this 'ol cuss!

Washed 'em to get the dirt and grime off and then used that Zephyr stuff with a stiff buffing wheel on my grinder. Really went pretty fast, I was surprised.

After you get everything polished, use Mirror X, its green and follow the directions. Its an acid but it won't take the shine away like the other stuff, unless you mix it to strong.

The "whatever" is what you clearly do not comprehend
The oxidization you remove with acid brightener is the trace metals
    of the alloy composition.

Removing trace metals increase the porosity, known as pitting/pitted/etched.
There is also no such thing as "layers",metal alloys are not laminates.

I suggest a crash coarse in metallurgy :biggrin_2556:

I have recently heard of using RainX to seal up polished aluminum
    after polishing.
It should work just fine,I use RainX to polish up high carbon content(S30V,C154) knife blades and it works very well(no dulling, streaking etc)
I stopped wasting money on polish and bling years ago so I have nothing to test it out on,like tanks or wheels.

I have a question about polished aluminum. I have a Indian motorcycle that has polished aluminum on it. The bike has been sitting for about 5yrs with some oxidation starting on the polished aluminum parts. I want to clean it up but I don't know what to use.

Is it safe to use one of the cleaners mentioned on this polished aluminum ?
