Wispers and scarecrow.... I appreciate all that you have both added to my long list of pros and cons... Thank you.
Now here is my final decision
My husband and myself are changing careers... he a steelworker and I am a Broadcast Engineer for 23 yrs in the television industry. Fact is... the steel industry sucks (average layoff is about 6 mos. of the year or better) and the television industry is being taken over by computer video servers phasing out the jobs of humans thus I average 23-30hrs a week. We own a lovely home and to make this move means we keep our lovely home that we will rarely see but we will have a place to call home when we retire. Last year w/ my garbage hrs I made a mere 22k and my husband made about the same. Our kids are grown and my mom lives with us and will care for our pets. If we make 30K each driving as a team at minimum... we are ahead of the game.... Teams are said to get loads first so I am very hopeful that we will get miles... if not... life goes on... like I said... we are still in better shape than continuing the path we are currently on. Perhaps we will do much better than that ... if so... greater yet. The FIRST thing that I rely on is positive thinking and always know that someone has it way worse than me. Remember this... as a team... all those miles still come to the same household and we get to work together and see the country... maybe at 55... but we see it. Looking forward to the future and never regretting the past. We start school at TDDS Driving Institute (25min from home)on April 16th in Lake Milton Ohio and GOD willing... days will be brighter. We were scheduled to do Swift on April 11 but after WAY more terrible reviews... we thought NOT. By the way... My employer is granting me time off the schedule "until further notice" while I chase my dreams and are allowing me to retain my position with the company until I decide otherwise.... Thanks WFMJ TV!! Thats the best of BOTH worlds lol
Positive thinking brings Positive things to your life

CNK,
Since you are from OH and are looking to team with your husband, I would suspect that you two would be working for PAM Dedicated out of North Jackson, OH. I once teamed with this division of PAM with an exgirlfriend of mine. The miles were good and the hometime was pretty much every other weekend. Best of luck to the two of you and keep that positive attitude. If there's any insight I can offer you, just let me know. -
Scarecrow... thanks for the insight... Looking forward to what the future holds. I will keep you informed. As of now.. we are set to start Mon. April 16. Take care n stay safe.

Thanks Karen... I think we may be a little more fortunate being team drivers. We'll see how it goes and I'll keep you all informed. I've done my homework pretty well I feel and have been studying the CDL Manual and things are looking good so far. Take care and safe travels to the hubby. Looking forward to the future.

First day of training done n went well but tired.
More later -
First week out of the way and two to go.... long days the first 3 days getting the initial interview, orientation, drug screen/physicals, permit tests plus 8 1/2 hrs classes each day but all is going great. Passed all the important things now I just gotta learn to drive that bad boy. We go on site Monday and on road around Wednesday. I (the only gal in class) did get to move one of the rigs from one side of the site to the other and hook up a trailer but our true driving begins Monday nite. I'm excited... I passed all necessary permit tests as well as obtained my doubles/trips and tanker endorsements. That was exciting!!
