you should get longer hauls with transam, stay company driver do not lease, swift will have shorter hauls do to all those terminals, and from what i read on all of those forum no fuel booklet which sucks, the computer tells you where and how much fuel to pickup like 44 gal. you need 50 gal. or so to get a shower, i used to work for transam back in the 90's, no one really did lease's back then but all companys are hurting for money and turning themself into brokering companys, i was thinking of joining swift this spring 2011, but gee i want to pick fuel stops not the dam computer you will run out of fuel easy when your half empty, remember transam is a meat hauler, so lots of lumber unloads at night time, been away for 7 years from trucking, this winter alwasy slow and holidays, all the newbies will be quiting cause there home sick, and new log book rules and CSA regulations coming, so this spring companys pay should be higher, and desperate to thats when i jump in

If you come to Transam, you will also be given rteing and fuel solutions. Also, you have to get permission for everything!!!! The miles are here and if you don't mind being micromanaged, its ok for a starting company. Equipment is top notch and kept in good shape. APU's, inverters, and little fridges in all the trks. I'm not a trainer, but if you do decide to come here, I'll give you my name and # and try to help if I can.

Dave your info on fuel at Swift is way off. Never been told to get 44gal. Fuel routes are stupid at times. You put 2/8ths of a tank in your empty call and they will send you a load and fuel route that is dumb. Expect you to drive 600mi on that fuel. I just send a frre form message that it won't work and they send me something different.

Rug Trucker, I have offers from Stevens, Schnieder, Werner, Covanant and TransAm so far. My expected graduation date from Diesel Driving Academy in Shreveport is December 16th so I still have time to make a decision which carrier I will choose as my employer. I have all endorsements on my CDL and I have completed the Homeland Security fingerprint and background check. My past driving record is flawless not so much as a parking ticket for the last 28 years. I've never been arrested for anything in my life and I have never used dope or alcohol. I only got into trucking after being laid off from the company that I was with for 15 years as a mainframe system programmer. Our jobs were sent to India and over 11,000 of us were put out on the streets in one year. Thats when I decided that trucking was the one profession that could not be offshored to India because they would work for less. OK, rant off.
So of the five I have mentioned above, do you have an likes or dis-likes in the bunch? I will tell you that so far TransAm is offering the best overall package with Stevens coming in a distant second. I really want to haul reefers because of their consistant miles and loads.

Boudin Man only experience I have is with Swift. Any company that pushes the lease I would avoid like the plague.

Stevens had my step sons friend and screwed with him because he refused to lease. He went to Maverick. Stevens didn't want me because I didn't need their school.

If you have a school that is PTDI certified? Check out Crete. Conway LTL, or Conway truck load. Maverick is into dry van now. I have an app in with Conway LTL. I am probably going to stay put until I get 1 year in with one company. My goal is go local for better money than OTR.

Trans Am likes the lease. Werner dropped me a week before orientation. I had what they thought was an unpaid ticket for 47 in a 30. Court forgot to drop that when I was convicted of 14 over. Yet 6 months later they sent me letters and post cards trying to hire me.

Reefer means sitting fow hours at a time waiting for lumpers to break down and inventory your load. Just hauling an occasional dry load to grocery warehouses drives me nuts. 4hrs to unload is crazy.
