speaking of stupid things, I just found out my girlfriends brother will receive no punishment for his recent dui due to a clerical error. this guy thinks it's hilarious to drive drunk and he has a cdl. gotta love the system.

Shouldn't the company whose freight this loser had in the trailer known that there was no operating authority or insurance?
Of course they could have known. But didn't ask because this outlaw "carrier" was probably pulling the freight for half the legal company quoted!!!

IMHO, it seems to me that this company that owns the freight has to accept some responsibility for the crimes!

 

Often, the shipper has gone through a broker. The broker really doesn't care who hauls the freight in most cases, only that it arrives on time and the broker gets the biggest cut possible.

When I was running independent, I remember sending in all my information to a new broker including MC number and insurance documents. If the broker merely accepted what was faxed and didn't double check, the carrier slipped through. In some cases, especially with fly-by-night brokers, they just don't care.

It is the broker's responsibility to ensure his or her carriers are legit, but it is the carrier who is required to remain so. The last link is the driver, whose responsibility it is to ensure the vehicle he or she is driving is legal. Yeah, I know...there are cases the driver thought everything was cool...and cases where the driver is clearly being taken advantage of because of language barrier or misinformation. However, the vast majority of us know better than to smear grease over the tags or photocopy and alter IFTA documents. But some do it anyway. They're the dummies I'd like removed from the road.

To the guy with the moron brother: his number will come up and he will get caught. Let's pray the Grandmothers keep those around him safe until he is.

 

Guy at work got picked up for dui last week. Thing is, he wasn't even driving, he was walking. He was on probation for the dui, was walking downtown here, and got stopped by the cops. They found he had been drinking and sent him to prison for 4 years. They wonder why the prisons are full to overflowing, I got a few ideas.

 

One can only hope. Between what he drives at work (rock bucket)and what he drives at home (oversized pickup, to boost his ego no doubt) I can't see any accident ending well.
