$0.50/mile for fuel (this assumes fuel cost of $3/mile and 6 mpg)
0.20/mile for lease payment (assumes 2,500 miles/week w/$500/wk pmt)
0.05/mile for tires
0.025/pm's (oil changes)
0.08/mile maintenance
_____________
$0.855/mile costs* GMANS info

Now lets add some WAGES ( as per LEAST its a JOB comment ) at say $0.38 / mile gee its up to $1.23 / mile with $1.15 / mile income. :biggrin_2555:

Least amount you could pull freight for at $1.23/ mile costs is $1.56 / mile and you still would be at the low end.

Average dryvan freight rates is currently around $1.72 / mile ( customer being charged )

I guess I'll have to scan my last 4 weeks statements to show what really goes on with a Swift lease. If it's so crappy then I have no idea how I'm clearing what I am.

For the last time, though...I do not want to buy someone else's problem with no support for repairs. Just ask a few of our members how that's working out for them. I don't have 45K laying around and the way most company guys get jacked around, they don't have much opportunity to lay it by. Especially if they have a wife or husband at home who likes to live well.

If those finance companies will back a 5 year old truck for 25K, they should have no trouble with a three year old truck for the same amount, only I know what to expect from it because I drove it for those three years. It will still be under warranty because I was smart enough to buy the extended factory warranty. And I will have nearly 40K set by at that time. Money I don't have right now because of a poor choice in business partner before.

So, you won't turn a key for $1.15/mile. Bet you do an awful lot of sitting.

Another vote for #2. In fact, I just did that last February. I only had $20k instead of $45k, though.

Got lease pre-approval from Mercer in December, put $10k down on a $36k '06 KW T600 with CAT/13-sp (381k miles on the clock), bought a $7500 trailer by borrowing $6k from my plastic card at 3% APR, dusted off another credit card I haven't used in years for emergency, and off I went to work.

Fast forward to October, I have a newer, used trailer (paid $15k cash in July), all plastic cards are paid off hopefully never to be used again, and $12k sitting in my checking account. Truck now has 466k miles, and $18k left on loan balance. My truck payment is $1080/month or $270/week.

Edit: Forgot to mention I took 3 weeks off in August for vacation.

Here's my truck and my trailer.

funny you left out the fuel rebate. thats running about .26cpm. so your .33cpm rate plus the rebate runs close to .60cpm. and with $5k already sitting in the bank as a reserve for repairs, etc., i'm not putting .155cpm into maintence account....i am putting .08 (or $200/wk) into it. $9600 a year...sounds fair to me. And if it costs more, it comes out of my pocket.

health insurance, i was spending $100 or so a month as a co. driver. i'm planning on spending $150/mo....which figures out to be 0.015cpm based on 2500/wk....so i'm still net .52cpm.

and with fuel being $3 per MILE (as you posted) Gman, how could anybody make any money. $3 per gallon, and running 6mpg. actually for 2500 mi, you'll need 416 gallons at 6 mpg. which is about $1250. minus the fuel rebate on loaded miles, your cost per mile is closer to .25-30 cpm...not .50.......IF you're getting a fuel rebate....and at .50 cpm you're obviously not.

No I do not sit and the miles I turn are profitable , I have plenty of work and more power to you if you want to make $1.15 / mile.

The MATH does not lie take a "WAGE " out of your $1.15 / mile ( FSC in ) and what is left divide it up between all the costs incurred to the truck and what is left ?

independants like you are the ones you hear on the radio cryin' all the time about cheap freight. Hence your argument on this thread wreaks of it. Independants are so butt-hurt because big carriers (like swift) are so big, they undercut other company bidders to get the freight. Then use the 'mill' excuse because you think every driver behind a swift truck has 3 mo. experience or less. When in fact....you're just p!zzed off because some 'punk'. with 10x less experience as you, is taking your miles/freight.

But i'll clue you in on a little somethin'. <psssst> its called 'doing business'. you think when a mega construction company enters into a bid for a multi-million dollar job, they wont undercut the bid a little to ensure they get the contract? They're so big, they could afford it. Same with swift.

But please. show us your operating expenses, since you obviously know so much about swifts. Tell us....how much you're spending a mile out of that $5/mi freight you're pullin'. Oh...but lest we forget, as an independant running on their own authority, you dont get paid for empty miles, do ya.

Dick you know NOTHING about me or my operation , I do not CRY about cheap freight , haul all you want and show where I ever posted about $5/ mile loads or where I badmouthed SWIFT or their DRIVERS.
.

I have all the customers I need and have had them for quite a few years , the BIG CARRIERS got in the door and were soon showed the DOOR.

I forgot more about business tactics than you think you know. As for SWIFT tactics did you know the BIG CARRIERS operate on 4% profit for the large volumes they do.

All I ever done on this thread was point out that the MATH does not lie , but to a guy who could not FLOAT a loan to buy a used truck this deal suits you , good luck and all the best.

well, do what another poster on here just said, post your earnings statement for the week. (minus all the personal info, naturally)....typing it in just wont cut it, cause anybody can make up numbers.

just curious how this went from a thread started about being paid mileage or percentage, to going back and forth talking to swift-haters? Why do threads like this always end up the same way, where all the swift-haters come out and can do nothing but throw negitivity around?
