    Thanks Jim, but keep in mind I'm looking for local truck driving career on the account i'm only 19
    and Roadmaster is completely out of the question because of 6K I just do not have.. and United may possible be one of the schools i might choose. but its the 5K I just do not have,


    Plan is to get a local job, then once 21 go with Prime (If Possible)

    I'm thinking gonna go with Skyway Trucking School..

    Not sayin' that you shouldn't do it at all but, at 19 it's gonna be darn hard to find a job as a driver.

    Most of the local gigs are pretty tied up right now.

    But, ther's a good thread on here "Starting out for Rookies" or something like that. It's a sticky somewhere. Definately worth the read.

    One other thing. At your age, I might be looking for a job as a shop helper or as a yard guy with one of the companies local to the area. It might just get you a foot in the door later on. Wouldn't be the first time that a young guy moved up through the ranks and became a driver.

    As a matter of fact, 30 or so years ago that was the pretty standard way of doing things.

    Just an Update:

    I'm Turning 20 in 3 Months! Cannot Wait Because 10 Months after my B-Day I can enroll in a school here in California, To Obtain My CDL then Going With Either Swift or CRST or Werner (Haven't Decided Yet) Most likely its going to be Swift;

    Why 10 Months After my B-Day because After I am done receiving my CDL and Endorsements(Hazmat Double etc) I'll be at the age of 21!

    Cannot Wait! (litteraly, I've been on the volvo website looking at the VN 670 etc etc and have all the materials i'm gonna have in my truck - and the way I'm gonna have the inside & outside of my truck Clean! gonna take pride in my big rig, and how i'm gonna try to be a good friend to all; and maybe start or join a ministry for truckers!... I'm very excited; and i know its gonna be rough but I think i'm ready!)

    In the following 'free-time' I'm trying to look for a job that will help me 'get in the door' par say.. or just a job period no matter what it is! and Thats Hard!....

    i've been turn'd down by Walmart/Mcdonalds/Kmart/Auto Auctions(For a Driver)/etc...

    Having a tough time!...

    Any Suggestions of a job that will look when trying to apply with swift?
    or any job at all?

    Jake, if I were in your position...... considering that the Fontana - Ontario area is the west coast center of the trucking industry, I would be trying to get my foot in the door with ANY small trucking company. Washing trucks, cleaning the shop and yard, whatever, maybe a "lot guy" at one of the used truck lots or a cashier at one of the smaller truck stops.... forget the McDonald's/Walmart thing. The job market is really tough right now, especially in SoCal. Everybody without any skills (and a lot of people that have them) are trying that route and, the jobs just aren't there.

    Above all ... get creative and, get out there and knock on some doors.

    I cant find a darn job! (I think its because of the misdemeanor that i have and no Experience!)

    What can i do to make money?
    or
    Make a year go by quickly?
