Not to be funny, but about the same amount of time most people would rent an apartment before they buy a house. Once you acquire enough experience-money-stability in life, then go for it. In all those areas, only you will know when it is right. Best of luck to you.

If you lease you are starting a business. No matter how much driving experience you get, it will do you no good if you don't have the basic skills to run a business.
If you don't already have the background I would suggest taking a basic accounting course, intro to macro economics and intro to business course. Also, learn to use a spread sheet program, such as excel. -
If you cant make it without buying a truck on your own versues trying to purchase a truck through a company lease purchase plan then you need to stay a company driver. There are very few people who have been able to complete a company based lease purchase. Lease purchases are set up to benefit the company and not the driver.

Go out and buy a truck with traditional financing or if you are Hell bent on leasing try ... National lease , Ryder, Penske -
never lease a truck from a company!
