Money Needed To To Start.

well this IS quite simple.....if you are talking about money needed for the home, for those 6 or so months, while in training (at a school near your home) and then looking for a job.......???

take all your bills, your rent, gasoline, food and what ever else, add them up, then add an extra 5% for incidentals........that will be what you need.....


if you mean to ask "how much money to take on the road"..??

then about $150 to 200 per week.

 

I'm signing on with Roehl starting near the end of January. Fortunately I have a full time job at the moment, but with my current bills, I'll be scraping the barrel for a few weeks.

$100 for their school registration fee.
$70 for a passport card
$??? to get hazmat back on my license (not required, but helpful)
$240 car payment for the 3 weeks I'm in unpaid school
$450 for my half of the mortgage on the house my g/f and I live in
$300 that's $100 a week for food and whatever while I'm at school
$120 gas to drive the 12 hours to and from Roehls RDTC
$75 other bills (credit card, computer, netflix) for the unpaid 3 weeks
$400 due the first day of school for the 3 weeks in a hotel

I'm sure there's something I forgot. But that's almost $1800 to spend 3 weeks at a school and just get started on the actual job. Then I have to worry about another month of low "training pay" before I start getting mileage. So add to that $1800 another $100 a week for personal expenses and food. That's also another month worth of bills... ...about $700

That's $2900 before I earn 1 mileage paycheck from Roehl. Granted the training pay will offset this slightly, that's nearly $3000 out of pocket just to change jobs!

That's just for the first 7 weeks. I can't imagine being on the road for longer than that, let alone 6 months and having to still rely on personal savings. If that's ends up being the case, I will end up regretting my decision.

 

Perhaps you should just stay where you are.. Not trying to be rude or anything, but are also assuming that every week you are on the road will be a GOOD week.

 

Get Roehl to reimburse you for the gas money. Most companies provide bus tickets but if you get there on your own they usually reimburse you up to the amount of a bus ticket. Good luck!

 

Whatever you do.... stay away from the horse track!

 

That's funny! I used to haul horses and we were at a track almost everyday! Never really got into throwing money on them though. Of course it's smarter to bet on them then own them! Trust me! At least when your betting you occasionally win!

 

this is true, horses were once known as "the sport of kings"....you HAD TO BE rich in order to own one, let alone a whole stable of them.

also, most (if not all) horses eat like truckers.....

but amazingly, even with THAT type of appetite, a horse can still run faster and longer than any trucker........

 

Kind of like boating. It's better to know someone with a boat than actually owning one.
