Hi All, I want to train to be a OTR diver. I have been a heavy equipment operator for the last 20+ years. I have a CDL with a few local low boy miles. I never had to take a DOT phyiscal. I have a lazy left eye that has peripheral vision but the vision is not much better that 20/200 my right eye is 20/20.
Question, am I out of luck for a DOT health card that I will need to train? Can you get a waver form your eye Doc? Would any company touch me? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Do you have corrective lenses that bring your vision in the bad eye closer to 20/20? If so, then I don't see how there could be a problem.

Both eyes have to be corrected to 20/40 or better and your periphial vision has to be at least 70 degrees. If you can't get corrected to those numbers you won't pass the DOT physical. I don't think there's a waiver possibilty on your eyes.

Thanks for you quick replies!! I don't wear glasses as it doesn't help my lazy eye. I may well be SOL but I will consult with my eye Doc next week before I would take the DOT physical to get his opinion. Please keep your thoughts coming. I am confident I could be a safe truck driver as I have lived with this condition all my life.
