Yes I'm figuring this out too; I try to meet driver friends when I get to same region where they are, at certain truck stops. This way I see somebody I know perhaps once or twice a week. The support and friendship I am experiencing out here makes me almost speechless.

It certainly takes special personality to cope with being alone; therefore, having such great friends out here is vital to me...they are my safety net :biggrin_25519:

This forum is great, thanks for your feedback.

And then there are those who prefer to be alone...and no, we're not all serial killers and such :biggrin_2559:

It just takes the right kind of "couple"...I'm happily married (this time :biggrin_25523:) with 2 kids and I love them and my wife for all I am worth...but I still can't be there all the time, it drives me nuts...she knew that when she married me, and she married me anyway.

We chat online about once a week or so...every now and then Daniel (3 year old son) wants to tell me something and she'll call and we fire up the computers and webcams and have a lil long distance family time.

How do the kids take it? About a month ago I told Daniel I had to go back to work and he said "NO...stay here!

I told him if I did I couldn't afford to buy him any more toys...he handed me my keys and said "Bye Dad...I love you"...:biggrin_25523:

My other son....just joined the Marines and is no longer there at home either.

I can say, this is definatly setting in. the job is not hard, but being away from my wife is. Sitting in this truck day in and day out, with nobody to talk to stinks.

I know, go talk to the truckers in the truck stops, but I'm so tired of the know it alls in there. They all can fix the country because they are so smart.

I don't have an answer for you, but if you find anything that helps, let me know

i think tut hit this one square on the head, i have drifted about, drove truck, although right now i am not in a truck cause i am looking at deployment square in the face. i have gotten good at being lonely, and while it works for me, at the same time its scares me to death.

Exactly my thoughts.... yeh I was not looking for "the answer" anyways.... think there are as many ways to cope with this, as are OTR drivers out there....

What seems off is when you look at so many other major transportation industries. Planes, Ships, even most Trains have a crew of people. In trucking it's all on one person.

For some reason this makes me think of this movie.

Just one guy up there on a Moon Base salvage fuel from the solar wind. By himself for 3 years.
